I am debating the point. Bruenker is getting lauded as some sort of hero because he stepped up to take a penalty in a shoot out.
I believe he should have been expected to step up and take a penalty, and i don't exactly think it shows massive balls to do so, he just did his job. it's hardly the bravest thing in the world.

I wonder if the disrespect shown to Bruenker is because he's a really poor player at this level OR, is it because of who recruited him?

One thing is for sure,he made the goal against Aldershot from the centre circle to continuing his run to take the pass into the area and the centre that caused the own goal.Well done to him for that.

Tactically,we were putting cross after cross into the box all game and they were heading them away all game so not the way forward.

It doesn't help that we are playing in such a way that we kind of need Brunker at the moment. Whether that's from the start or off the bench, he's the only striker we have that might win one of these long balls towards the strikers. We've seen enough to realise Doyle isn't that striker and he looked more dangerous with Brunker alongside him (admittedly against Conference opposition...).

Until a better target man is brought in, Brunker is likely to be in and around the side whether we like it or not.

the problem is that we aren’t playing to either doyle’s or bruenker’s strengths..

through his career doyle has worked better playing off a target man where he can do his best work in and around the box, and we haven’t played with two wingers costantly firing crosses into the box for bruenker to attack.

i’d hazard a guess that the majority of league one centre-forwards lose more than 50% of their headed challenges with centre-halfs when the ball is played up from the back - there’s nothing easier for a centre-half than running onto a direct long ball forward; wyke did and hanson did too. to be honest, the best target man performance i can remember last season was calvin andrew for rochdale at spotland. it got to a point after about 50mins where kilgallon and NKP didn’t even challenge anymore because they couldn’t get near him. he absolutely bullied them for 90 minutes.

I agree about the ballsy debate, slight over reaction by some but I still don't understand why he should be expected to be 1 of the 1st 5 to take a penalty.

Agree he was a constant pain in the arse to our central defenders, as was Craig Davies when he and Doyle came to Valley Parade with Oldham.

Compare the amount of game time Bruenker has had in comparison to Gibson and it's easy to see why one is a far bigger problem to us than the other.

Gibson is our only fit winger and Hopkin chooses to not use any

Think that says all you need to know

And that's why Gibson comes in for less criticism- he's not playing. Bruenker on the other hand has had more game time so is more relevant. There's more to discuss and criticise as a result of actually seeing him on the pitch. Nothing to do with him being German or Rahic bringing him in.

Ok I’ll give you another example then. Gibson was the first name that came to my head at the time.

Miller has played nearly double what Brunker has and scored one more goal. Yet i don’t see his name on every thread to the end of time?

Do you get my point yet?

I’m not defending him as he clearly is a bad player in a bad side but why do we always bring it back to Brunker. Every single match thread.

Gibson has featured in more games than Bruenker. The problem with Gibson is that he'll play a game and then not play again for a month so it looks like he's not involved a lot and he's in and out games far too much without taking control of what he's been dealt.

Miller (and 95% of our squad) have been below par. The problem with Bruenker is that he's about 2 levels below everyone else ability wise, and plays like a rank amateur. He doesn't even resemble a footballer and I can see why the levels of criticism are higher with him.
