Based on the detailed discussion today in the takeover thread, I now know that would be a glove suitable for someone with up to 6 fingers.

Last year I saw a stat where Cooke had covered the most yards of anyone in the squad.

I'd say he always gives his all. Perhaps he's not always effective but I'm not sure you can ever knock his work ethic.

Is giving his all and having a great work ethic enough.

both were true about a certain German we had playing for us. The problem being he was shit

If you're comparing Callum Cooke to Kai Brunker then I'm afraid I can no longer converse with you.

That's a level of stupidity beyond my comprehension.

i wasn’t comparing him at all. I was stating the fact that energy and effort does not equate to output

IIRC Cooke was very highly ranked it attacking passes and chances created, that combined with effort makes him a decent player-the issue is he doesn’t get enough goals and doesn’t offer enough defensively and plays at the cost of another striker (who won’t score anyway)
In theory-if we stick with a 343 with wingbacks you could play Cooke in the middle with Sutton and have Sonogo push up out of the back 3 at times to offset and we could or even have him behind 2 main strikers and Watt and Sutton behind.
These though be tactics and require time and effort on the training ground and players who can take things on board.

No matter the manager it feels like every winter this same conversation crops up since Rupp took over, started with Meredith in the Wembley season and the likes of Wood last season.

Sad thing is there’s nobody at the club I’d be fussed about losing, I remember constantly hoping for updates around players from the regulars from 2012-16 now nobody is anywhere near irreplaceable.

Jon is right though we need to keep an eye on player turnover. We don’t get dominated in games and don’t lose many, it’s more a case of adding quality than starting again.

Cooke creates chances consistently. It's not his fault that our strikers fail to convert them. Earlier in the season, when Cooke was starting, we created hatfulls of chances; since he's been benched the chances have dwindled. I don't think that's coincidence.
What I don't understand is all the fuss about Watt. To me he's a liability - makes a couple of decent showy passes per game, in amongst a ton of bad decisions, unnecessary fouls and gifting the ball to the opposition. Baffling.

Couldn't agree more with this post.

Even against Sutton, we're playing a system with a man playing just behind a front 2 and Gillead gets the nod for the role in front of Cooke.

Is there anyone in this board that actually think that makes sense?

I decided against mentioning Gilliead, for the sake of my sanity.

I rate Gilliead (no I'm not a relative). And the manager picks him. I rest my case.

    Awaiting nuclear fallout!

I do struggle to understand why Cooke isn't playing more. But having said that, when he does play he never looks to me like a player who is creating bags of chances. He is very comfortable on the ball but when he gets to the danger area I think he shirks responsibility, same as Gilliead. I can only think that when he gets to the edge of the area, turns backwards and lays it off to someone else to take responsibility, that then counts as a chance created and adds to his stats.

What exactly do you rate about him? He has good close control, I'll give you that, but he does next to nothing with it. He has one goal (a tap in when the keeper dropped it) and one assist ( a backwards headed flick on from a long throw). Those are appalling stats for an attacking midfielder. He creates next to nothing. Please explain to me what he brings to the team that is so valuable that he starts nearly every game. I'm genuinely bemused.

Yeah must agree Ulysses. Constantly get the impression that Adams only has three or four players he really likes the look of, which is a total bummer for us as fans. What have we got? Not alot that the manager currently has total faith in. It's a mess and I think we're all starting to realize that Adams is not the Messiah. And he certainly isn't a manager who can inspire under performing players. OK let's see what January brings and how that can help moving us forward. But in truth, as ever, we're in turmoil. Have been for years. Breaks my heart, it really does.

Like you, I rate Cooke. What you describe is a problem of confidence. When a side isn't winning, players play safe - they don't want to be the one that xxxxx up so they don't go for the unusual, the different, the unexpected. We have played safe and conservative as a team for months - well let's face it, years. The major problem is that Adams, like our last four or five managers, is clearly not able to unlock this problem.
