Cooke creates chances consistently. It's not his fault that our strikers fail to convert them. Earlier in the season, when Cooke was starting, we created hatfulls of chances; since he's been benched the chances have dwindled. I don't think that's coincidence.
What I don't understand is all the fuss about Watt. To me he's a liability - makes a couple of decent showy passes per game, in amongst a ton of bad decisions, unnecessary fouls and gifting the ball to the opposition. Baffling.

Poor enough for Stockport to pay money for and now a scoring regular for them including 1 against league 1 opposition. People may or may not rate him but the facts don't lie. He's scoring goals for fun from an attacking midfield/striker role, something we badly lack. And let's not go down its only non league route, there's hardly any difference between most of the teams in the national league and league 2 now.

Spam fritters - food of the Gods! My Mum used to cook them in our chip pan, which was also used to cook fried bread. It was full of lard, which was left in and allowed to harden after each use. Any black bits would be scooped out with a slotted spoon. About once a year she would replace the lard, whether it needed it or not.

If you're comparing Callum Cooke to Kai Brunker then I'm afraid I can no longer converse with you.

That's a level of stupidity beyond my comprehension.

Your mention of the Clock End reminds me that the first professional football game I attended was Arsenal v Everton in 1963 - I was seven. My Uncle Bill (a gooner, like my mum) took me and we stood on the Clock End. Arsenal won 3-1 with Joe Baker and George Eastham scoring. We had tea in a nearby cafe and I remember having tinned peaches with evap, which was my favourite 'afters' at the time.

I wimped out on the fried slice - didn't think I'd have the room for it with all that lovely bubble.
Saving it for tomorrow's fry up.

"Signing players with two or three-year deals doesn’t wash with me unless they’ve got a value."

Proceeds to sign 30yr old Liam Ridehalgh and non league Fiacre Kelleher on two year deals.

Based on the detailed discussion today in the takeover thread, I now know that would be a glove suitable for someone with up to 6 fingers.

Last year I saw a stat where Cooke had covered the most yards of anyone in the squad.

I'd say he always gives his all. Perhaps he's not always effective but I'm not sure you can ever knock his work ethic.

What exactly do you rate about him? He has good close control, I'll give you that, but he does next to nothing with it. He has one goal (a tap in when the keeper dropped it) and one assist ( a backwards headed flick on from a long throw). Those are appalling stats for an attacking midfielder. He creates next to nothing. Please explain to me what he brings to the team that is so valuable that he starts nearly every game. I'm genuinely bemused.

In those days the fat from the bacon could cook a full English, not the emulsified stuff they call bacon today, as you say Paradise.

Mine will be a post much fry up, eggs, bacon, bubble, sausage and a couple of fried slices.
Seems ages since we had a home game on Boxing Day, and it will be a pale shadow of the old 11 o'clock KO at the old place, but still better than no game.

I have to say that I agree in general with what you are saying. League Two and most of the National League seem to be getting closer. It maybe a combination of League Two getting weaker and the National League getting stronger.
We all put down League Two (often with some justification) but one thing I have noticed is that very few teams just lump the ball forward like they used to do at this level. I think a lot of our attitude to League Two is down to us all being fed up with a City of our size spending too much time at this level.
My view about the evening up is that with all the foreign players in the Premier League and Championship we end up with a lot of British players drifting down the leagues. Another thing is that players at every level, even semi pro, have a more professional attitude to diet and fitness.
It used to be that in the lower divisions if you had a bit more talent in your team than the opposition it would get you over the line. These days fitness and being prepared to work at least as hard as your opponents is the minimum required. Some may disagree with me.

How many players this season were actually signed on 1 year deals? Now I'd guess covid made a few players take whatever was on offer but generally, unless you are shite and nobody else wants you, decent players do not move on one year contracts.

I give you Threlkeld on a 2 year deal and Gillead the first name on the teamsheet

Great player at this level was Johnnie Hall. He was a regular fan after his retirement from the game
