    Best I can do is equate Gilliead to Will Atkinson, albeit further up the pitch.

    Will was a 'wide man' who gave balance to the side and had decent enough technical attributes - he didn't give the ball away, he worked for the team, etc etc etc, but he didn't really 'do' anything creative or dangerous.

    Gilliead suffers, though, because he's seen as a 'winger' and he's expected to produce stats, which he clearly doesn't.

    Playing Gilliead on the opposite wing to Vernam makes some sense, because Vernam just gets the ball and runs (and shoots wide). Gilliead's presence would be quite welcome IF the other winger was scoring goals and assisting, but as we know, that's not the case - so the spotlight rightly falls on him as a non-scoring, non-assisting winger.

    Gilliead just doesn't have anywhere to hide, this side isn't good enough to justify his inclusion, but I can kind of see why Adams picks him. He's not a bad footballer, but he's about as likely to change the outcome of a match as a ballboy, which is slightly more likely than a mascot.

    Your mention of the Clock End reminds me that the first professional football game I attended was Arsenal v Everton in 1963 - I was seven. My Uncle Bill (a gooner, like my mum) took me and we stood on the Clock End. Arsenal won 3-1 with Joe Baker and George Eastham scoring. We had tea in a nearby cafe and I remember having tinned peaches with evap, which was my favourite 'afters' at the time.

    Definately played and was MOM from my recollection.

    On a seperate matter re John Hall i also seem to recall him scoring the quickest goal scored by City straight from the kick off, think it has since been beat but a record at the time. Game played at VP.
