Thinking exactly the same, us bringing the likes of Darbyshirea nd Clayton tells me Hughes ain't happy with the initial recruitment done in the summer. We've been very busy this January.

 

Jeffries said Stuart's legs had gone when he let him go to Sheffield United,he soon proved him wrong.

 

He was hopeless.it was Jim O’Brien that made the difference and unfortunately we didn’t sign him on and he left in the Jan window.

 

He couldn’t have been released because he was still under contract.

 

Yes O'Brien and Paul Caddis were both excellent signings unfortunately getting relegated probably cost us with regards keeping Caddis.

 

He’s from Doncaster not Scunthorpe

 

I could be wrong but I actually remember thinking Caddis was a bit mercenary, followed the money. Play for whoever offered most.

 

If you say so, Jim was overrated imo dropped to the bottom of league 2 and never played league football again once they were relegated. Just shows how shit we were actually relying on them lot.

 

Hopefully all will work out and we get promoted.
If not promoted Hughes out We are Bradford City .

 

I think that comes with the job, short career and all that, I just thought with us getting relegated we couldn't afford him, but football wise he did well for us, many saying at the time he was too old to play wing back.

 

We must have half a dozen “creative” midfielders/ attackers. We create as many chances as most other clubs. Last time I looked, it was not far off Orients total

In L2 you need a solid midfield, where they win the ball back quickly.

I don’t get why we want another creative central midfielder when all they’ll do is make us vulnerable to the counterattack.

Karl Henry only played 4 times for us,he was unfit and well past it.

 

If I had to use an example of a midfielder we badly lack, based on this season I would use the example of Tyler Morton, on loan at Blackburn from Liverpool. Quick, great engine and not afraid to turn with the ball and carry it as opposed to looking for the safe easy pass option I see to regularly. If that's what Adam Clayton does in his game then great we've cracked it. If not then we still have the same problem as before. Another perfect example that's just come to me, Lewis OBrien.

 

I always remember Robbie James joining and comments being he was slow and past his best - went on to be a short-term legend in my eyes. Fingers crossed Adam can do the same

 

I think Hughes rates Smallwood and Gillead together I think Clayton will be back up to start with strengthening the squad

 

To be honest, despite all the changes lately I don't expect there will be much difference in our approach or indeed results, seems all such a mess to me ...

 

I’m not bothered how many times he played, like it or not results improved then collapsed after he left.

 

Haven’t read all 6 pages, but for me given his experience, Clayton could be an astute signing.

He could be our 2023 version of Bullock/Liddle/Ravenhill et al.

Generally though, we’ve all as fans been confident that we’ve not been good enough this season. Hughes to his credit is clearly seeing this too and doing something about it, so all power to his elbow.
