I think he sits at the base of midfield.
Smallwood will play higher up the pitch imo.
His goals this season show we need him breaking into the box or looking to shoot from 25 yards

 

Coming from a good pedigree, and compared to what we have now, could anything really be that bad?

 

First of the January signings that i am bothered about. Vastly experienced and likes a tackle. If he is as influential as Jones was - another golden oldie - then this will be Hughes’ most important signing here.

Hoping his legs haven’t gone and his appetite remains.

Seriously, he has experience, likes a tackle and whilst he might not be box to box, with Smallwood he should be a good compliment. This looks like a shrewd signing to me, especially as it's short term. Exactly what we have been asking for at this level.

The only concern is why Doncaster have shipped him out, but that could be because he's on a high wage and they need to move him on to bring in someone else who doesn't play the same game as him. Could be as simple as Donny need more width in midfield. Not unhappy with this at all.

To those questioning why he is leaving Donny, we should know more than anyone that it simply just doesn't work out for certain players at certain clubs. That is football. Look at Eoin Doyle with us, for example
