    Absolutely.

Promotion or a highly probable spanking at home to a big club? Sounds like a daft question to me.

Folk would have said the same a decade ago. Forget the league cup nonsense, we want promotion.

We got promotion and didn't win the league cup.

    Seems like it worked.

Yes September-ish 2014 I think, MK dons beat us. Ironically, I think it was the week after we beat them in the league! (or might have been the week before, my memory fails me)

Reading some posts in this thread it seems some / most had rose tinted glasses on.
I’ll get pelters for this opinion but I don’t think it was anything better than we’ve seen in previous games.
We looked better in first half because Wrexham played a weekened team. Had they started with McLean, Palmer and Lee I think we’d have lost by a few goals.
The 2nd half it was backs to the wall defending which I agree we did very well.
Reading their message boards they think we are the worst team they’ve faced so far and I tend to agree with them.
Anyway, let’s see who’s reserves we can ‘beat’ on penalties in round 3

Yet we created better chances in the 2nd half

How many fans would have swapped that semi final win against Villa for 3pts in the league.....

Promotion is the aim but no reason we can't enjoy a good cup run.

If we were to draw a really big gun out tonight it might bring another player in before the transfer window shuts

Maybe it’ll pay for Cooks tummy tuck.
It’s boiled my piss that he’s come back this season so overweight and unfit

Right then, my take on last night. Firstly, the first tackle from either side in the game and the ref gives a pen. I mean, if this was the other way, I would never appeal it in our favour. The ref was totally incompetent throughout the whole game to say the least! Once the head start was given, we have quite a few half chances, but without Mullin and Palmer, we are massively weakened up front, and Dalby from non league I think isn't strong enough to be a Palmer replacement, and Bickers is only a kid and not ready to fill Mullin's boots, so we need the cheque book out to buy better quality. Apart from that, I don't recall much events that warranted me to be worried, and would argue that the BC performance is probably the worst out of all the games we've had since promotion, but isn't a 'bad' performance per se.

Second half, your lot had the clearer chances, and hitting the target would have been 2 goals to the good and effectively game over. Alas, they never came and we grew into the game after bringing McClean, Palmer and Lee and gave your back line something else to think about.

We got the goal we (I feel) deserved, set pieces are a big thing with our style of play, then didn't do enough to get a winner, and your defence held firm when we launched balls into the box.

Penalties are a lottery, and the first from Young is a rare miss, which opens the door for defeat.

Not massively bothered by losing on pens as 1 team has to lose and causes more distractions. We need players back from injury and quickly. Tozer is a massive liability and all he offers at the moment is a long ball and a long throw, where we don't do anything from. Hayden's first game since the Sheffield U tie and played an hour, and by god we missed him. I'd shift Tozer out and play Eoghan O Connell in the middle, with Boyle and Hayden either side in a back 3.

Midfield, as predicted, is our weak points, Cannon was utterly dreadful and Jones ineffective (again!).

Role on Saturday for the derby against the Trannies. Will pop along to VP when we meet again in October.

Aye, could be looking at a gross of £500,000 if we draw Man Utd at VP. Sky would probably pick it up as well given the Hughes factor (and of course being Man Utd) which would be even higher.

Yes, sometimes you have to look at the bigger picture and stop being short sighted eh...

Rare chances on the counter which Halliday should have done better with.
If that’s Scott Banks it’s 3-1 game over. That’s what we are missing

I wouldn’t say stone wall but despite Parkys complaints, Hughes is correct that any contact in the box poses risks of giving away a penalty.
Be honest if that had been against us would you have held hands up and accepted correct decision ?

Must admit I think we would have been unhappy if that had been given against us. Very soft.
