You don’t have to be a brain surgeon imo to see that a centre forward with the ability to head the ball is desperately needed to play in long side Doyle or Miller and be able to feed off the quick wingers we have. Sounded like Riley and a good game at right back so guess that’s his best position Not seen the stats but it also sounded that we had the majority of the ball with some good passing but with no finished product.

 

Yes. After seven games, or something like that, we were in the relegation zone, or near enough, and then as you said it 'clicked' and we hardly lost a game for the rest of the season. It is 20 years ago so maybe my rose tinted spectacles are failing me.

As many have said, give him a run of games before we really decide on him,
He’s learnt the hard way today. Tinkering with the team and formation, and we lost.
He also learnt what not to say pre and post match, so he’s gaining experience each week.

To be honest, in my view and hearing what the players are saying about training etc, I think he’s a good coach, but perhaps not a manager. And before I get shot down and told he’s not a manager, but a head coach, you all know what I mean. He’s still the man responsible for picking the tram and running it for 90mins on a match day. Big step up.

I feel for the guy already, only 3 games and vultures are circling. He will no doubt feel this pressure and that won’t help anyone.

He’s going to make mistakes, as he has already with formations and last nights post match comments but the problem he has is that time waits for no one and as fans we have no patience and want success even though everything points to this side being better the longer the season progresses

The strange part of last night was the abandonment of the 3 at the back formation.
Whilst i dont like it, and dont feel we a back 5 good enough to implement it properly, its the only way to get scannell/payne in the same side effectively or the only formation that will allow us two strikers without having a lop sided or too open team.
When it is clear that, that is what they have spent all summer working towards, when it showed saturday that it is that what clearly needs working on, to completely disregard it all of a sudden is very odd.. Last night would have been a good opportunity to work on it against a team from a lower level

 

Really? Do we have to hear the incessant whinging this early in the season?
Give the man a chance, jumping on his back and the team after 3 games will not help the situation. There is more promise in these players than last season. If you said in preseason "we need to see where we are after 10 games" then keep to your word and do that.
Immediate negativity will only guarantee failure and bores the life out of many other city fans reading and listening and having to put up with it year after year.
