Inspection was probably called as mindful of the impact on the pitch of the game on Tuesday as well.

If called off will also be fortuitous as Salford now not playing tonight, and having a new manager and won a match looks like they maybe a different proposition on Tuesday than a few weeks back.

 

In this case it will likely be a local referee, someone like Bobby Madley, rather than the match referee as he is probably working today and with him being from Cheshire he most likely wouldn't be staying over in a hotel tonight as he would just travel in the morning.

 

We did think this was the most likely outcome once we knew the match was cancelled. Different players, new manager etc.,

Get a read of the comments on social media regarding the postponement lol. I know footy fans generally are thick as mince but jeez, I'm surprised some can tie their own shoelaces.

 

Seems a bit early considering the expected rise in temperature, especially tomorrow. No frost forecast for overnight. The only issue I can see is waterlogged, but that's unlikely. Ah well.

Just been sent this picture that is apparently from today.

 

You are right - the key is how deep the frost is. The problem comes when the temp goes up to 4 or 5 degrees and the top inch or so unfreezes but it is still solid underneath. add some rain (which is forecast and you get muddy slime with an hard surface underneath.

 

I assume they want to let the pitch recover for Tuesday because there's no way it will still be frozen for tomorrow's game.

 

I know this doesn't show the full pitch but took this at 1.50pm as I was passing the ground.
