Yes it was an FA Cup replay and we knew we’d be playing Everton at home in the 4th round.
Everton at the time were a top team so it was a big game for us.
Those were also the days when top teams valued the FA Cup and played their strongest team no matter who the opposition were.

Treated my wife to this game, she never saw any of the goals because of the crowd jumping up in front of us in the kop.

I recall Sticks running down Midland Road side towards the kop and toe poking one in from a tight angle. Absolutely battered them that night.

Well guys it’s confession time I finished up driving Mrs Rocket to Boundary Outlet Colne

 

It was a very cold night, but Sticks played like a god that night. The pitch was pretty much an ice rink. No way that game would get played today.

Not as cold as the 1-1 draw up at Oldham that caused the replay. Coldest game I've ever been to. So cold that Peter Lichfield was unable to bend down and stop a pea-roller from trickling into the net.

Just to add to the deep joy of that game, Bradford Boys played Oldham Boys before the game on the artificial pitch. My brother was in the Bradford squad, although he didn't get on the pitch, so we actually stood for over 5 hours in the ground. I still can't let it go.

 

Before that we had the game against Hull City on a snow covered pitch, around 1980 if my memory is served me well.

I remember a match played on a snow covered pitch (with blue markings) on a weekday afternoon because the floodlights were down, Bristol Rovers I think. Around 1983.

 

I seem to recall playing in fairly heavy snow early seventies with Thorpe Edge native Roy Baker playing for us, and possibly scoring?, can't remember the opponents though.

Because of the snow, we gave the open kop a miss and went into the Midland Road shed for the first time

 

Shed was the emotive word!
