Who was the last manager we appointed who was appropriate for this level? Parky? Grayson? someone who’s managed at this level and had success, managed higher and has contacts and player knowledge to manage the budget appropriately.
Adams had the first bits but not the final and Hughes doesn’t look to have much of it.
The names that get thrown around of Evans, Wellans and Harris I would say have all of the factors

Because wether we like it or not he has to be given the chance to prove he can get his formation to be successful with the players he has and those he brought in.
After last season I wasn't for sacking him although the goal of promotion was not achieved.
I thought some of his signings were players who would improve us in various positions, so when he said he would change the system I was prepared to give him a second chance although as I have previously posted a bit more quality in certain positions would IMO be all we required if he'd stayed with a back 4.
Maybe the new formation would produce more attacking football with others chipping in with goals to take that burdon off Andy Cook, at the moment (after seeing all our league games) I'm not convinced it will from what we've seen.
So even though it's early days there has to be change wether that is the players start to respond and show they are capable of playing the system, if not then Hughes has to make a choice persevere with this system and hope we start showing what that system offers not merely with regards winning points but was more entertaining or change it, reverting back to last season's formation with a regular partner for Andy Cook, if he sticks with the first or reverts to last season formation it has to produce a promotion, he's been given the tools to do the job but failed so far, unfortunately if he doesn't the Bradford City managerial roundabout will go around and around.

Please lets not go down this route again

McCall was shit, let's blame and sack Jacobs

The next seven are shit, let's blame and sack Drury (now head of coaching at man utd academy)

Hughes is failing, let's sack Trueman.

I'm sorry if we are looking for fall guys, then the buck starts at the top

Drury was always going to go-great youth manager, bad 1st team-they don’t have to go hand in hand

Everyone who worked with Drury at first team level raved about his coaching though and he seemed very accomplished in the videos the club used to post on social media. Agree he will do very well in this new role for himself.

I just don't get the idea of blaming the coaches, surely the manager is out there telling the coaches what he wants, what he expects and overseeing that. If they aren't then he needs to be proactive and do it himself.

Wellans failed at three clubs succeeded at two Adams got Morecambe promoted on peanuts which with the state of finances at the time made him an obvious target.

What are you basing the idea that hes a bad 1st team coach on?
Funny that people are going in on Trueman too but seem to have forgotten about Gylnn Hodges.

I enjoyed football in the past, I certainly don’t enjoy it now.
And I’m not just talking about not enjoying City, I don’t enjoy men’s football at the highest levels either.
I may make the transition to watching the women’s game as it reminds me of how football should be played and is much more entertaining.

out of interest, if we had a DOF in charge of pretty much everything…what would a high profile manager like Hughes actually be doing?
Might as well just employ some no mark puppet to carry out the wishes of the DOF.

    I think you’re deluded pal.

I get your point on the men’s game and at the top level now it’s a pretty disgusting the way clubs and players carry on. The lad refusing to play at Leeds is a disgrace.
In some ways I hope the middle east take all the best players and the Premier League goes back to how it was in the mid-90s. Its unlikely but id much prefer it.
The women’s game is truly dreadful though and while they are trying I dont care what anyone says but it’s just not the same sport. I tried watching some of the WC but couldn’t do more than 5 minutes. I’d much rather watch Bradford slog it out against Crawley.

Haha deluded can’t resist showing your true colours when you lose a debate can you. Go back over our posts and you’ll find more agree with me than yourself, talk of delusion you may want to look in the mirror.

For what it’s worth I don’t disagree about football at the highest level, it’s not what it was for me even the best players I don’t look at in ore as superstars as I did those growing up I just see young lads as concerned with social media and hair gel as playing, but that’s a separate issue. I’m not bother what Hughes would be doing either, you either adapt or go extinct live the rest of the dinosaurs.

How have I lost the debate? You have absolutely zero evidence to back up your claim that we’d be better off with a DoF.
If adapting to modern football means being bored senseless in every game then I’m ready to walk away.

With Hughes I think it’s the opposite he has turned a simple game into an over complicated one where all that worries him is possession .keep it simple in this league and if it is dinasaur football or not it’s the way to go

I’m totally on the fence with this one day I think we need a man in charge prepared to be brave and attack, the next it’s like well Hughes needs a few games to get the formation working and things will hopefully click.
I’m not sure why we didn’t just sign players that would improve the formation from last season, we had a decent blueprint albeit boring to watch at times but we still ticked along nicely. It’s almost a reset that wasn’t needed.

Hughes talks about guile and intensity but it appears he doesn’t communicate this to the players or the players don’t listen, or It might just be that one of main problems is Trueman in a coaching role , he is the one constant in the sub plot to this.

I hope we come out and go at them on Saturday but I n my experience these pivotal moments hardly ever fall in the side of City so it will be Crewe switch ends score early and the atmosphere is flat to toxic..

never been keen on 3 at the back even less so with our cBs, 4321 or 442 for me but we will get 343 and Cook will still be isolated

Northampton recovered from the previous season disappointment by still with what they were doing and added in better players

As did Millwall the season they beat us at Wembley, Barnsley beat them the previous final appearance at Wembley the following season they kept who they wanted and improved on what they may have thought were weak links within the squad.

Id say Wellens would be a good appointment, (who if i recall applied to City after Adams left)

but it can be tricky. We thought Adams would be a good appointment and looked how that turned out. That being said he smashed us 3-0

I wasn’t talking about his tactics, but working with a DOF. But I don’t disagree he’s using over complicated tactics for this level.

For me it's too early to want him sacked, we did make progress and finally finished in the playoffs for the first time since relegation...which just says everything about how this club is run at the moment

I'm not sure if his football is really shite or if it's too complex for a L2 team to carry out, but either way it is a poor watch. I think if it doesn't start to work itself out then he'll leave on his own accord.

Looking at the Colchester game, it could've been a thrashing if Cook had taken his chances, and we should have won at Stockport but again Cook faltered, so then really 6 points from 9 wouldn't be bad and Morecambe could've been a blip.

There's a bad vibe around the club and it's not exactly the managers fault, it's built up frustration of now 5 years spent in League Two. The anger is misdirected in my opinion, so best of luck to Hughes and I hope we get a strong performance against Crewe on Sat.
