As did we after we lost to Millwall in the play off semis but reached the final the year after.
We kept the same core team and added Charlie Wyke.

Ta Onside, kind of you. To be clear I've never felt unable to make my viewpoint on here and the contributors range of views are what makes it work, even the slightly narky ones!
But my opinion of Hughes and his management team won't change, i think there are too many failings and has been too much overblown hype about them as my last post.

I am just enormously frustrated with the club and do worry about accountability issues - I have no idea who is really pulling the strings and who is taking responsibility.
I don't really have anything else to say and that's why I am having a break on here - but your message warranted a final comment

The other back story which has never materialised is Hughes giving the club identity, improve the infrastructure ,bring in experience of working with sports science, recruitment and also potentially attracting investment was talked about when he arrived.

we aren’t really any further forward we have had a raft of injuries, the recruitment is just as poor we have no identity regarding style or how we should approach the game so much so he’s ripped up the formation which kept us fairly solid to one just doesn’t fit, it all seems to have gone into reverse.commercially we are doing ok but that’s not Hughes
I don’t think he has much left in the bank before the current grumbling turn into a real revolt for his head.

I hope he proves me wrong

I hadn't realised Harris was with them from Jan 22, somehow I thought he was brought in Jan 23. That means that Jackett probably did have a big impact on their transformation.

Most clubs have sports scientist and conditioning coaches etc to work with the players in training, Maybe wrong but it seems we put cones out, run round them a bit then go home :)

As others have said the massive impact was the arrival of Brad Galinson and his money. Without him The Gills would very likely have been relegated last season. Mr Galinson investing heavily in the January enabled Neil Harris to make significant signings and turn their form around.

Neil Harris, Kenny Jackett and Andy Hessenthaler all played their part but Gillingham were only able to add the latter two thanks to the American. Their start to this season just shows how quickly things can turn around with the right people and a big bag of cash.

The Gillingham equivalent of Bradford City's Stuart McCall.

In this case if true I'd just let it play out until end of season, then at least we've given him the agreed length of time to succeed and we not paying off any contract that could affect next seasons budget, yes if it's not going well mid season many will call for immediate action but unless an obvious good candidate is available we may as well just let it run it's course.

All Hughes needs to do is change the formation back to something more suited to the players we have in the squad. We don’t want to throw the baby out with the bath water. We need consistency, we can’t keep ripping up managers contracts.

I'd be more than happy to stick with Hughes if he did that. The question is, will he and unfortunately, I'm starting to come to the conclusion that the answer is probably no.

Then why didn't he do that today? Why hang out to dry an entire starting eleven for 45 minutes when the solution is slapping you in the face? Hughes gets no credit whatsoever today, his tactics cost us 2 points against a very average Grimsby side.

Well he did didn’t he, albeit at half time. The evidence is there for everyone to see that we looked soooooo much more like ourselves with a back 4. Let’s hope he swallows his pride and sticks with it.

Let's be honest, even with a back 4 we still had terrible delivery, no cohesion and no clear cut chances created.
The personnel we have in this squad at the moment are so rigid it makes a Seabrook crisp look flowing, although taking a step back we really are missing our only flair players in Chapman and Pattison.

Well that is the problem. It took him the whole of 45 minutes plus other matches this season. I hate sacking managers as it is disruptive to the whole club, not to mention the players. However, I just can’t see him changing. We looked totally clueless in our first half, why? He has no adventure in his soul. What about our young lad. Just seen an interview, he says he felt no pressure as he was a fan and knows how the fans feel, he was excited and couldn’t sleep last night. Yes you have to be careful with young players but for goodness sake. There is no way we the fans would turn on him.

That thing ice he's on got even thinner after today and his insane rambling in the post match interviews. I ain't gann lie, I booed them off at half time, well, I say them, it was aimed solely at the clueless manager in the dugout
