    Exactly.
A lot of opinions on here are based on seeing things once.
Nobody knew Agyei until he went past Stubbs, and all of a sudden he’s somebody we should sign.

And one you've made a mistake, as even the top defenders do, how are you rectifying that mistake?

Pace is vital at any level of football and without any, not only will you get exposed, you'll also struggle to create at the other end.

If you have pace at the back, you can play further up the pitch. I think our lack of pace can lead to a lack of connection between midfield and forwards as we are forces to sit a bit deeper.

Pace isn't vital for a center half though, you're generally marking a space and if you're positionally aware you don't need the pace. I'd much rather opt for a solid centre back than one with bags of pace, it's normally the case they are full of pace but lack the nouse.

You have a point but in league 2 teams don’t defend high up and most play direct height and strength is far more important. Although platt and Timi have pace for central defenders

How many athletes have we seen at City over the years who can run 100m in under 13 seconds - but can't trap a football or a pick a decent pass......

Thats fine - but Ridehlagh and Gilliead will be squad members next season you would think. Im hopeful of a new LWB anyway. Oliver looks a pretty expensive mistake. Hendrie will be flogged, Morecombe is the word and Odusina I believe gets a chance this season. Maybe he redeems himself....

Anyway, your previous post seemed like it was lamenting the fact Eisa, Threlkeld, Songo etc had gone and we hadnt adequately replaced them because they were on 'high wages'.

Find me a centre back with pace, that is also strong, can read the game and defend well and I will show you someone who inst a league two defender.....

Have to agree, you’d think other clubs had Maldini gliding across the pitch. All I saw last season was a league full of hairy arsed pub looking players at the back, one of the players of the season Pellagerani for Stevenage turns like a cruise liner. If other clubs do it then so can we. I have an issue with the pace of the wing backs but not CB’s it’s common for them to be the slowest players on the pitch.

Oliver, Hendire and Odisina, were all deals done last season from last seasons player budget I'd think, with regards Gilliead played 40+ for us last season, Hughes will know if he could improve on either for the same money they have accepted for their new contract extensions, Hughes also knows what these two offer the team and has strengthen other areas with more to come I'd say.

It has to be said that Liam Ridehalgh missed a huge chunk of last season,

finally managing to stay fit during the second half of the season (28 L2 games)

I’m sure Colin @Interested Bystander@Interested Bystander will advise but pace wasn’t Bobby Moore’s greatest asset, rather what he had between his ears?

True he didn't have much pace and wasn't the best header of the ball, but could read the game and was a great leader.
