TBH Sergio think football has moved on from having a 'best eleven' It's much more a squad game, particularly with the new extra subs rule.

Hadnt for Forest Green last term. Only 15 players played over 30 games.

Quality over quantity for me. Id take Jack Diamond on a perm and swap him for 3 of our wide men.

Hypothetically of course, as he’s gone to Lincoln…. Same position as Vernam! Mmmm?

Sheffield Wed, Bristol Rov, Morecambe and Mansfield amongst other clubs who were keen to land Dion.

Quite a coup to beat the self styled best manager City could wish for in Derek Adams then to his signing!

Agree. Zero negatives on yesterdays signings. We have, and will get more injuries this season. Players may leave. Some will gain and lose form.

There’s a lot of games this season and with the squad we have we should also be giving the cups a decent go as well. Like or loath, why not give the Papa Johns Trophy a good go at - after all winning games is never a negative.

The biggest plus I take from yesterdays signings is that it gives us more options out wide which we are missing. It potentially provides a very strong alternative to the way we’ve set up so far this season (maybe this might even be Hughes preferred approach) and options for Plan B, C etc which based on Doncaster, Crewe etc we’ve been crying out for. You’d expect this plays to the strength of the likes of Oliver, Angol etc so again, more options up front.

You win games by scoring goals. Quality attacking threat and options is imperative to a successful promotion bid - on paper we have this quality and options, over to Hughes and his staff to pull it all together.

I for one are excited to see how this materialises.

As confirmed by Hughes in the T&A this morning. It was only on Tuesday that the Dion deal started to look a gooer according to him, which explains why he was in buoyant mood about after the game Tuesday night.

We've had 3 cup games with double the normal attendances and SKY also paying to have us on the TV.
    These will have contributed IMO.

Interesting how he refers to our CEO. I get the feeling Sparks(y) likes being one of the lads.

Too right. I've worked under right idiots who hadn't a clue about how to manage people, but I always supported my teams as best I could despite the interference of those who thought they knew better. Some of those who worked for me ten years ago still call me "boss" as a result.

Do you think they call the gaffer “Sparky”? I don’t think so. Alex Ferguson gets called Sir Alex. Not Fergie.
Didn’t work out too well for Mcall - being all pally pally with his players.

Do you think that Sparksy has any impact on the development of players, training and the choosing of a matchday squad and tactics?

Id say Ole would be a better example to use. McCalls downfall was on Rahic’s incompetence an McCalls shit tactics

No. Makes it even more odd that a player is calling a “suit” aka CEO, by his nickname.

The CEO can be whoever he wants, it has no impact on the day to day running/playing of the team. It's not uncommon in modern business for someone high up the tree to try and make themselves more human to the people they employ. I'm sure Hughes, will be instilling the necessary respect that he requires.

I think so. If I don’t have direct interaction with my boss’s boss on a day to day basis, then I don’t think I’d be on first name/nickname terms with him. Especially quoting in an interview.

Anyway, not looking for an argument. Each to his own. Personally I think it’s strange that a player is on such informal terms with the CEO. Especially one that’s just joined us.
