Because you're looking at it as one signing and what influence does one signing have?

Read back at all the posts in the exchange you've been having (I can't call it a debate or discussion because you're not listening to and learning from the other poster).

It's not one signing = 500 season tickets, it is the flow of information, the build up of positivity, the incremental good news messages that encourage and persuade people to buy a season ticket.

Disagree. A proper marquee signing before the ticket deadline could easily add numbers too it. No signings before or MEH ! signings could detract from it. From that perspective, transfer activity does have an impact.

We signed Chris Waddle in January 1997. The 14 home league games before that signing averaged 11,283, which was skewed upwards by a bumper boxing day crowd of 17,475 v Sheff United. Take that out and the average was 10,080 (and the most notable thing is that in 8 of those games the home crowds were between 10,000 and 10,200). The 9 home league games after he signed averaged 15,549.

I don't expect us to sign anyone of that impact, and I accept that the name made the biggest differnce, but it does show that even one marquee signing can affect the crowd so even a smaller marquee signing could add possibly 500 to the ticket sales.

Fair enough. I stand corrected, and it kind of totally negates my argument.

What explains the sudden increase in gates for the last nine matches ? I know Midland Road opened on Boxing Day 1996 but the sudden increase in gates that season from the end of Jan onwards is absolutely stunning. Surely cant have been all down to the Everton cup win ?

Another interesting point about that season is that the three teams below us are all (or in Grimsby's case have been) non league now.

Whilst Midland Road was being built the capacity of the ground probably limited quite a few attendances - I’d guess the capacity would have been around 13500 so if the away team didn’t bring so many that would leave us around the 11000 mark from memory

We were getting round about 7/8 thousand in 1996/97 when back in the championship, then when Midland road opened it became incredibly popular and gates shot up to the 15, 000 mark. We ended with an average of about 13,500 that season

I can't remember, but did we launch some sort of reduced half season ticket after it opened ?

Lowest attendance was 9,200 vs Swindon, following 4 losses on the bounce.

I love stats so just had to look it up according to this
    https://www.11v11.com/teams/bradford-city/tab/matches/season/1997/

The only sub 10k crowd was a Tuesday night v Swindon

Getting the midland road open will have meant there was a far better selection of seats available for the casual fan rather than being stuck in A block of the main stand or whatever

Ultimately it's positions that count not points, each season is different. Tranmere got 75 points last season finishing 9th whereas in 20/21 they got 72 points finishing 7th. At the end of next season if we have (P) next to our name nobody will care about points.

I can promise more points gives you a better chance of a higher position, of course they count.

At least you get it....he cant comprehend it.

Him and Park think its as simple as you will get one or you wont. Its that black and white and your mind is made up in a split second! For some yes, but not all....

I know about 30 people who will get STs no matter what. I know another 10 who didnt have them last season encouraged enough this May/June to get a ticket and another 5 or 6 on the fence.....time/work/money an issue. They can be persauded though.

Crowds were bigger than I thought that season pre Midland road but they certainly shot up afterwards.

Christ you can tell its pre-season.

up to 130 pages now. Ignoring all the fluster about marketing and getting back to the nitty gritty, has anyone heard any whispers on new arrivals? Even if its Twitter tosh…..?
