If the full strength line up you speak off consists of Cook playing up front by himself then I can't see a massive change in our fortunes
Walsall sussed us and now Salford have done a job on us we need to mix the formation up play 2 strikers Cook can't be expected to beat 2 centre halves every game
Would have preferred Mr Adams to have acknowledged that rather than say create enough chances one will go in soon enough, to me his first big test has come earlier than expected due to the Angol injury

 

Not playing any game mate, also I have never said who "we shouldn't have signed" - I saw his 'effort' and he should have scored, without a doubt.
It was nothing but a bad miss.

 

It was a worldie save. Should have scored though I agree. Salford for me also missed a sitter when their lad tried an acrobatic that just went past the post. Game of tiny margins and I hate to bang the same drum but when hasn’t league 2 been this way? It’s an absolute scrap with players who are very inconsistent.

 

Just seen the highlights - but for a brilliant save from Cook, this could have easily been 3 points, or at the worst 1. Very unlucky to come away with nothing, but if you don’t do the basics rights, whether it’s in the 60th minute or 90th minute then the outcome is not going to be favourable. A sloppy goal to concede. Frustrating but there you go. Learn from it and move on.

Doesn't sound like Cook was brought off with an injury from this interview so IMO it makes it even more frustrating, that he made a straight swap Cook for Lavery, Adams is right we are making many chances 17 today but that would suggest with 10 minutes to go you don't bring off your only real goal threat.

 

Your last sentence sums it up for me

 

Once Angol is fit I believe Adams will revert back to Cook & Angol starting, they certainly complemented each other in the first few games, but even accepting we are creating plenty of chances 17 today only 4 were on target, so bloody frustrating one lapse of concentration in the last few minutes from a set piece and we lose all three points.

Blatantly obvious Cook needs a foil,nobody within the 2 metre Covid safe distance of him all afternoon.
I hate Salford with a passion along with FGR the sooner we get out of this league the better.

 

I've seen the highlights, its a decent save but i'd expect most league 2 keepers to save that. For me its yet another chance gone begging where a striker had the whole goal to aim for yet allowed the keeper a fair chance. To be fair and as you allude to, he is a run of the mill league 2 striker and as such won't be finishing the chances a higher level striker would. But the way we are set up dictates that our success or failure rides on the shoulders of the proliferacy of Andy Cook. Adams is a big admirer of Angol, he alludes to it in interviews, and i think the determination of how successful we are this season will depend on how long we can keep him on the field for the remains of the season. The more games he plays the more chance we have.

 

@WilsdenBantam reckoned those not playing are not good enough.

Someone else posted that the subs would not improve on the starting team only weaken them.

We do miss angol and his general game but he couldn't finish a wank when he played. He's not suddenly going to become the goalscorer we need.

No but he has enough in him to get double figures which takes a lot of pressure off Cooke when he doesn't score. Take Cook out today, where on earth does a goal come from? Vernam has a goal or two in him but the rest of the midfield offers litte to no goal threat. Watt scored a good one last week but generaly offers little other than being tidy. Cooke is more a creator than goal scorer and Evans and Giliead very seldom weigh in. Thats what Angol brings the table, good hold up play with pace to run in behind, something Cook as a lone striker doesn't.

 

Thats true but his skill level and intelligence is as good if not better than most. He gives the opposition another player to worry about.

Well, he scored last match but is he creating value for the team? He's a bit petulant and gives away free kicks in dangerous positions.

I'd bring Sutton back in for his energy and play him with Evans or Songo'o. Adams game plan seems to be based on getting the ball up the pitch quickly. Surely Sutton's speed and energy would be great for that? I can't understand why he's not playing.

A good summary of the game from Adam Raj, another one who is pointing out where are the goals coming from? He makes a good point that four players hit double figures for Morecambe under Adams last season. Stockton one of them, Mendes Gomez another.

 

City are not in the same conversation as FGR and Salford as their owners have ambition and will back it.
