The messages coming out do seem to contradict each other from one week to the next. It would be madness not to bring in another forward now - what's the point in strengthening in other areas if you don't have the strike force to capitalise and provide the end product?

People are reading way too much into this. Stuart always plays down his transfer dealings. No one had any idea about the incomings of Watt, Evans or Hosannah until late on in the day when the deal was done.
Stuart at the start of the season was bigging up our options at RWB in French, DMH, Sutton, Ismail (and even more latterly Evans) and saying that we might not even bring in a RB.
It's all games with the media, he's not going to come out all bullish about signing this and that.

 

Simple fact is, doesn't matter if we've got 6 in or 16 in - if we haven't got someone in the position we are failing on (striker), then it's been a disappointing window imo. He talks about the run of games coming in, and the worry of injuries, but that's exactly why we should be looking to get cover for Novak, Donno and "shudder"....Guthrie. Don't even want to contemplate one of them getting injured without someone being able to take their place.

I think you are right Asafa - if not Stuart will be guilty of a complete u-turn as previously 'its not about numbers, its about getting the right ones in' to 'its all ok because we now have a big squad'.
You only have to watch his Sky interview the other day to see he likes to keep his media dealings amusing and not give much away - all I will say is if he doesnt bring in a better striker the fans will have a right to feel a bit let down, we can all see what we have isnt good enough or offer any variety. I have a hunch he will deliver

 

Because as he has previously stated the free loans from PL clubs will be available, and after McCall has had them in for trials, he'll choose

 

I'm fully expecting a T&A article the morning after the window shuts, reminding us that we can still sign free agents and that the January window is only 12 weeks away - so we're pretty relaxed about it and have no need to panic.

Unfortunately our January transfers are generally a waste of time.

 

Get the summer transfers right and you shouldn’t need to rely on the January one.

We’ve always needed 3,4 or 5 players in the past, when we should only be looking for 1 or 2.
