It is hard to fathom why he is sticking it out here if he values the rest of his career.
He seems to be a player who likes to stroll around and seems totally unsuited to Hopkin's all action, 90 minute high press tactics. You'd think he'd want away as soon as possible.
Unless he knows himself that whatever powers he had are now seriously on the wane and he's unlikely to ever get another decent contract with a L1 or above club, and has decided that his best bet is to sit tight for the duration of his current lucrative deal and then retire.

 

Sorry but that really is rubbish. You are suggesting Hopkin names a player in his squad who he doesn't rate or trust instead of someone who he thinks is better. Really motivating for the rest of the squad. Agents and other managers will be well aware of how much he is earning and if they do enquire will find out sharpish anyway. Guess what they can look at videos of his appearances too. He will never match his current earnings anywhere else at the moment. Hopkin is encouraging him to accept a lower wage elsewhere which is in City's interests. He is leaving the door open in case of an unlikely improvement. There isn't much else he can do. It is nothing to do with Hopkin's ability as a manager, everything to do with the ridiculous contract we gave Wright. Wright has a choice. He can see out his current contract without playing again or accept lower wages at a lower level but perhaps extend his career a bit longer. If he had any self esteem he would go with the latter option.

 

You saw that clip from the checkatrade game, right? Josh Wright casually trotting back, at half speed, alongside the attacker with the ball cutting through our defence, without even trying to block, tackle, close down, instruct the defenders further back on positioning...anything at all?

Trouble is from we have seen from them they have been overpaid for what skills they have posses/displayed. It would appear other clubs must agree as there has been no takers from clubs in the FL as you have to presume their agents have been doing what they are paid to do by circulating their availability.

 

Think far too many fans are thinking like fans and not how they would really think.

If your manager:

A) Paid you more than most
B) You enjoyed what you did
C) Manager decides not to use you
D) You get to spend more time with your family
E) More time to map your future
F) Can save more money

I could go on but no need. All of you would consider doing what Wright and others are doing and you can't blame them.

If Hopkin doesn't want to use them that's his problem and a problem in my eyes he isn't dealing with correctly

 

He was part of many faults in that goal.

 

People forgot how poor O'Connor was for the goal.

 

Who do you suggest he replaces in the squad then? Akpan? O'Brien? Butterfield? Devine? All of them have offered more this season. As @Ricc points out, we don't want any more dances from 1 end of the pitch to the other with no challenges, tackles or leadership. You are very fond of telling us that City need points. We are much less likely to get them if Wright is anywhere near the match day squad.

We're the ones who brought them to the club and offered inflated contracts beyond their value.

 

Has Devine played this season? Butterfield hasn't even played yet infact has he played a league game for anyone this season?

 

Neither does he say they aren't training correctly. Like I say it is open to interpretation.

 

But this ignores the fact that he failed at Southend, has failed here and is only 29 years old. Unless he fancies an early retirement he has to do something to resuscitate his career. No one will take him on anything like the wages he's currently getting, and if he sits out his contract he'll be knocking on 32 without having done anything of note for over five years. So he needs to take a wage cut and/or drop a level to re-prove himself, or else accept that he's finished as a serious pro footballer.

 

Fordy has seemed to defend Wright from day one which is strange as he slags off far better players who put in far more effort and haven’t been sacked from previous clubs for that very issue, they must have the same crap haircut or made up Merc or something.

 

Accept Butterfield hasn't played this season, but I can't believe anyone is suggesting that Wright is better than Butterfield. Devine has played this season.

 

Yet the previous season to Southend he was club and players player of the year.

 

So why leave then when you're on high wages? Makes no sense.

Why leave to take a wage cut when you've sat 2 years left of your career?

Would you do that?

City are at fault for signing him and putting him on high wages. Can blame the player.
