Why does everyone always default to how good Gary Jones was when we make an over the hill signing? He was one in a hundred.

This reminds me of the Chris Taylor and Karl Henry desperate singings from previous windows. Got it wrong in the summer and hoping anyone or anything can improve things.

I really hope I am wrong but the business we have done this winter looks poor.

 

I don't know if he's still any good or not but he's not the profile of midfielder that we need in my opinion.

Also it does make me laugh when some fans on here are slated for being negative towards this. He's been part of a failing team and fans of said team are delighted that he's gone. Not to mention this club having very recent form for making disastrous signings very similar to this profile. I don't think anyone won't give him a chance but apprehension and downbeat comments are totally justified.

 

And what of Karl Henry, Butterfield, Chris Taylor, Donaldson, and all the other ancient shite weve been lumbered with etc etc etc

 

No m8, you've got to rate as the next Gary Jones. You know the rules.

 

Hughes obviously not impressed with our summer recruitment. This looks like a mini overhaul.

 

That sounds like a player manager fall out. Up to then more or less ever present?

 

If Sutton had the tech ability there is your answer….he’s got drive but low on the ability front.

 

I think there is a strong smell of rotting grapes coming out of Doncaster

 

Not sure how to feel about this signing but will reserve judgement. Agree with the concerns regarding an older player who seems to have been let go for nothing by a club in the same division. Not a ringing endorsement. Fingers crossed we get more of a tune from him.

 

Are we moving more towards signings that Hughes knows personally and more away from Gents scouting?

 

34 is hardly ancient is it. The guy was playing in the championship less than two years ago. The guy may be a real success or a complete failure but he adds experience and leadership qualities and extra competition in midfield

 

Donny paper and Yorkshire post strongly hinting that there was a falling out between Clayton and Schofield. See how he plays but not exactly inspiring? If he plays well, I couldn't give a toss.

What did I suggest earlier?

 

Personally I rated Karl Henry, he didn’t dig up many trees on the pitch but he was a leader with high standards. Our form improved when he arrived and collapsed again when he left. You need players like that in the dressing room.

 

Decent signing in my opinion. Hopefully he does the business for us

 

I think its all about finding that balance in midfield. Handing roles to players based on their strengths. For example, if you allow smallwood to solely stick to breaking up play, allow gilliead to cover the miles an shield the back 4, then Clayton can thrive if he’s allowed to solely focus on getting the ball up the pitch quickly to our attackers

Possibly. Or possibly he sees a lack of leadership in the team/squad and he's tasking Derbyshire and Clayton with bringing that in, after all, there aren't many leaders who are 21/22 years old!

He has also balanced those two signings with Nevers, Kelly, Costelloe so I think he'd argue that he's brought in experience and youth. In Kelly's case, someone who is our own player.

 

And I guess Hughes would say he's on a contract to the end of the season so if it doesn't work out then we're not committed.
