Osadebe is more of an attacking mid. Its where he has allegedly played for the majority of his career until he got deployed at RWB by Flynn at Walsall for half a season. Would lead me to believe he’s more of a Daly replacement as Daly was deployed as a 10 but could also play deeper in midfield.

As for East being a Watt replacement its hard to say. Id like to think that there is someone more experienced in mind to replace Watt an that East is more of a Evans replacement in the sense that he can build experience over the course of this season by filling in at various stages during the season

 

Whatever squad is assembled we will have the usual moans on here if we don't start at 100 miles an hour in the league. In recent times both Bolton and Mansfield have started very inconsistently but gathered pace to suecure automatic promotion. Much as I'd like us to do a FGR and be up there all season it aint gonna happen. Patience required on this message board

 

Odasebe can play in the middle or out wide, like Evans.

 

When did Mansfield secure automatic promotion, or even promotion? Must have missed that.

 

Theres a few on here who have been told he has already signed. If I was City, Id have cut that question out of Harry Chapmans getting to know ya interview......be a few upset people if he hasnt!

 

Well not true.

Many fans could clearly see very early we wasn’t going anywhere under both Bowyer and Adams.

Hughes is different but fans will soon rightly see if the squad is good enough to challenge. With both Bolton and Mansfield you knew they would come good but with us it was clearly we would go backwards.

If you can’t us 15-17k fans to your advantage then you stand no chance and if you can’t get back to back wins then forget about it!

Sometimes it pays to be bloody real to yourself and not live in dreamland.

 

I don't think you can look at players being direct replacements. I don't think it quite works like that. I think what Hughes will want, is 2 good options for each position.

Keeper - we're fine
Left back - Ridehalgh and Foulds are decent enough
RB - Hendrie is fine. Threlkeld and FCD, not good enough. I think we need another, but I also think its unlikely unless Threlkeld moves on. FCD can cover a few positions as a reserve
CB - Platt and Songo'o. Kelleher isn't good enough. Staunton could maybe be ok as a 4th CB, but we clearly need 1 more.
The 2 deeper midfield roles, we have East, Gillead and Sutton. We definitely need a quality addition.
The 3 attacking midfield/wide forward areas, we have Chapman, Osadebye, Walker, Eisa, Young. Angol can play wide too. We may bring one more in, possibly Perreira.
Striker - Harratt, Angol, Cook. I'd like to see one more come in, given Angols fitness risk, but it may mean moving Cook in.

Bottom line, we need at least one more CB, and a defensive midfielder. Minimum.

RW - Perreira/Odasebe
ST - Angol/Harratt/Cook

Think we get Perriera providing he is avilable.
The beauty of Jake Young is he can operate pretty much anywhere, to what level I am not sure.

I dont see anymore more attacking players unless Cook leaves though. In terms of numbers (if DP returns) we look pretty much stocked.

I reckon they are saving the news for after Watt’s move to whoever is announced.
My source RE Smallwood is from the players end, not City, so hopeful it’s genuine. And good to know others are hearing the same. On good money apparently.

When MH arrived he had a squad which he needed to get a tune out off. He came up with a system that used available "talent". It would be foolish to assume that is his preferred style and formation, and he'd just go for like for like replacements. What is apparent is he is signing young and pacey players who will fit his vision which maybe somewhat different to what you've seen to date.

If we got Johnston and Smallwood I would be over the moon ,but just don’t see them coming down to league 2

 

I don’t wanna get my pal in bother so all I say is this. A group of players were out in the North East recently. Among them was a current Bantam, a former bantam who was in the Boro youth set up for years when Gent and Smallwood were there, and Smallwood. Word spreads from there. I just wanna see an official announcement though as this is a major coup.

Agreed. I could see very early it wasnt happening under Jewell. Stockport beat us on opening day and 1 win in 7 was enough for me. He had to go.
