Haha we don’t need a recruitment head to negotiate contracts for players re signing

 

He should have an oversight of the squad as a whole so we build a squad to fit an identity and style of play, so we don’t end up with a lopsided squad again full of different managers players. Of course he should have input into resignings.

 

It's the other way round. The club making signings and not the manager are the mistakes of the past that go a long way to explaining why we're in the position we are.

 

You do realise a head of recruitments job is to bring players in? It’s not the wrong way round at all. Both McCall and Adams had free reign, hence why Turnbull was brought in just as McCall was being sacked to ‘help him out’ before been shown the door once Adams arrived. That’s where the issues were you couldn’t get a bigger contrast in styles between McCall and Adams yet we have a squad of their players mixed into one.

 

I think the youngish signings we've made so far Levi included are all educated gambles as adequate squad fillers, who've shown themselves to be capable of doing a job at this level, and If by chance MH manages to assemble a squad that gets us out of this division then those of them he doesn't think are capable of stepping up to L1 then I'm sure we'd easily be able to offload them back to a L2 team through loans or transfers with add ons maybe. Whether or not If this works If our scouting team have done their homework I'm happy with this approach to try build a young bunch who could potentially grow together and form a strong bond/friendship to help forming a great team spirit. Goes without saying though we are obviously going to need the solid experienced pros around every successful team has to make this work.

The job of head of recruitment is to recommend and give names and alternatives for the manager to have the final say. With a player already here there is no need for that the manager knows everything he needs to

I know what a head of recruitments job is Park, although not in football it’s my job there’s a bit more too it than that. You are correct on one thing though it is to work in tandem with the manager/head coach and if Hughes wants him to stay then he will. At no point have I said different to that whether I think it’s a good re-signing or not.

 

I think the head of recruitments job is to make recommendations - its pretty much a head scout role although he probably gets the say on academy and youth. Mark Hughes will have the final say whether he wants that senior player or not.

 

There’s a bit more to it, he wouldn’t have left a role above that of a head scout at Boro to just do that. Here’s a JD of the Blackburn role, which take away some of the sporting lingo is pretty generic around HoR roles. Bullet point 2 on the essentials gives a good idea.

 

I don't deny any of that, guess what I am saying is Mark Hughes will have the final say. If he doesn't want a player that Gent has recommended it won't happen. He can pull rank at any given time. The only people who will tell Mark 'no' are Rupp and Sparks.

Hughes will also have his own players, through his contacts within the game.

 

I agree that no signing will be made unless Hughes is on board and I’m sure they’ll have meetings between them to make sure they’re on the same page, still much more to it than a head scout however. If Hughes left tomorrow someone would have to keep the continuity of recruitment going.

I've tried to get clarification, the signing today/tomorrow seems fairly plausible but I don't know who it is. The player I thought it could be is actually someone we are very interested in and apparently chasing. But lots of competition from clubs - Port Vale, Bristol Rovers and Walsall mentioned.

Sorry, the narrative has now changed as it does with rumours and those 'ITK'!!!

 

Looks like the HoR reports to Hughes and the board so in theory Hughes is his boss and can over rule

 

So T & S were Turnbull’s boss last season? I seem to remember the retained list been done without a manager in place for instance, just because he’ll work with Hughes doesn’t mean he’s his boss. Sparks is his boss.

 

Sparks may be the boss officially, but I get the feeling Sparky wears the trousers down at VP at the moment
