The biggest problem is most if not all of those are on more money as prem development players than we can pay as first team starters.
They need to have the desire to succeed at the cost of money in their early careers and not all do.

 

Totally agree but if they are prepared to leave the safety of the development squads I would say they already are showing the correct attitude. Sure there will be some Joe Rileys thrown in there and I'm not advocating we go for this on mass but a few of these types of signings have potential to unearth some very good players.

 

He can certainly pass a ball with both feet, but I noticed it never showed him tackle nor be tackled?

I just wonder how he would hold up against men, as we all saw what happened in the early days of McBurnie.?

Yes, I'm keen on this signing. A risk, yes. That could be said of any signing. He has not got a real knowledge of 'senior' football but he has been schooled at a PL academy and Hughes has knowledge. The fact, as you allude to, that he is willing to make the move, speaks positive to myself.

Potential up sell on the kid.

 

Much prefer signings like this to the older end on their way back down they seldom produce what you are expecting and generally will come at a significant cost. I'd struggle to even name one of that type that's lived up to the hype.

 

Hope you are right Jon but I fear he will want to move up as he needs to look at this for his further development. He is already too good for this division. I feel he would have had a better season with a Gary Jones alongside to talk to him; a) you can't make the Hollywood pass all of the time and b) Calm him down when he could see him steaming up. There were times I thought he was lucky not to be red carded.

 

So according to various places today we have signed the following

An untried 24yr old keeper, previously worked with MH
A 36 year old defender, previously worked with MH
and a 34 yr old defender who retired end of last season, previously worked with MH

Will this be the summer where we are linked with every player that has ever worked with MH

 

Trevor Cherry, Yorath, Roy McFarland. Wasn’t Sir Bobby on his “way down” when he came back?

Peter Thorne and Gary Jones?

 

Touch before my time I'll take your word for it

 

Never really think about Jones as being on the way down if that makes sense although he certainly is an older player who was outstanding for us. I'm more thinking about players who have been playing in the prem or championship but are having to drop down because they're getting older.

I'm not saying it can't happen but I'd rather se us signing more Elliot Watts than Gareth Evans for example

 

I feel old all of a sudden….oh?

 

Peter beagrie , stuart mccall ,david wetherall , gunnar halle , dean saunders , had all played at a higher level before signing for city .

 

I think he means second time around.
