It says the same yearly, if so they could have changed the wording by now. When I’ve seen images there’s usually a large portion there. As I say nobody can be forced but it’s a sign of respect to those who’ve paid your wages imo. It’s not so much just Vernam, but it feels the club has been taken the piss out of by journeymen and mercenaries for the last 3/4 years who are happy to pick up a wage do the minimum and piss off at the first chance they get. There’s no unity with some of these players or a feeling of connection like teams of the past.

 

I'd love a Bannon (Sheff wed) or a Pritchard (S'land) at City...

This is completely over thinking the event. You just said yourself there is a “ large portion “ usually in attendance , which doesn’t mean everyone! Yet you choose to single out Vernam on the pretext he’s signed for another club.

We clearly disagree , but many agree it’s optional.

I have read them all. It doesn’t change the debate whether we are talking about Vernam or the tea lady. That’s my point. My initial reply was with regard to yourself saying he had gone on holiday and allegedly wasn’t attending because it was likely he was signing for another club. It’s irrelevant to me if someone indicated the same or similar previously. You chose to repeat it , as a result I was responding to you. People can choose on the veracity of both sides of the debate. That’s what forums are all about. As long as people don’t fall out, then it’s healthy.

 

If there was a head count with regards those attending I'd say past players are near to out numbering contracted players and IMO that's how it should be, pay your respects because you want to not because part of the contract you signed says you will.

 

I read that Vernams and his Mrs live in Grimsby. Refusing to relocate. Lincoln apparently in for him.

He will cut his daily journeys in half. Money be same/better. Looks like its the right deal for him and his family.

Not your first though the tea lady isn’t a well paid first team player in the public eye, that to me comes with its own responsibilities. Nobody can force someone to do something but it gets more respect imo to act in a certain way not jump on the first plane out of here, if he’d booked his holiday for the 12th May instead of 10th there wouldn’t even be anything to comment on, fine margins. As I said to another poster it’s not just Vernam but the players over recent years I feel no connection to and I feel many fans feel similar, showing up to events like this is not only respectful but shows community spirit Parkinson knew the script.

 

If City decided to “out do” Lincoln, on a signing on fee and his wages ,he will stay.

I cannot see much sponsorship for them other than the University and I can’t see a large backer ( at first glance)

It’s not as easily a done deal as some wish to claim. It depends on how Hughes/ Hodges/ Sparks / Owner wish to allocate for the squad. Keep a cheaper youngster at full back and one could double Vernam’s wage?

It’s doable I suggest.
