Competitive football starts in 2 days. We’re at the very least 3 players short, realistically 5/6 short of a promotion winning squad. We’ve reportedly plenty of money left, so what exactly are we waiting for? This wait and see mentality is astounding.

We're waiting for the loan market to develop, you'll see a couple of players coming in on the back of this. The window doesn't shut till October so there's time yet. If McCall can make a decent enough start to the season with what he's got it gives him time to wait for targets, if it's a bad start the fans will have a stick to beat him with. See what evolves.

Any money that goes out must be coming in. That’s the mantra from Rupp, it’s clear. Anything extra won’t be funded out of his pocket. Club must run sustainably and Rhodes is overseeing it. If you’re short of players it’s tough. Work with what you’ve got. Or that’s how it feels

With respect, @Onside87@Onside87 define strengthens? Maybe a touch at Bolton.

I've not made my season predictions yet, as I believe the transfer situation will evolve. I'm sure we will be more active than others in the last few weeks of the transfer window. But yeah, it is requiring patience

As you say Elliott Moore was the lad being lined up but unfortunatly he went to OH Leuven.

Walsall have just signed 6ft4 midfielder Emmanuel Osadebe who we we're linked with earlier on in the season.

Which is a perfectly reasonable way of running the business. Particularly where the business has a very, very limited ability to make a profit/ROI.

What the salary cap does is flatten out the division, makes coaching and talent spotting much more crucial to the success of any club, who they can attract, who wants to play for them, can they spot the diamond in the rough, and makes it possible for even League Two clubs to potentially turn a profit. Which in turn can be ploughed back into the business and because of the salary cap not just into players (A seat that doesn't leave a huge white mark on the back of my clothes and better toilet facilities would be good starting points).

If we spend up to the salary cap then we have no excuses. We can't claim that we had a 'low budget' or that we had to 'let people go' because they wanted higher wages. All clubs are now in the same boat. Level playing field.

There will be as many clubs happy at this are there are clubs who don't want it. The poorer clubs will now believe they can compete, where they should be competing, out on the field not against bank accounts or deep owner pockets.

I am personally all for it as it should make the competition much closer and therefore exciting.

Its never not been competitive has it this league? You only have to look at recent seasons and who’s been in the top 7. you have Notts county in the play offs one year and relegated the next.
its the way the club should be run of course and no one is disputing that but this summer we needed to get ahead of the game and we chose not to. That’s what I feel will cost us in the longer term

Lloyd Isgrove leaving Swindon after they retracted their offer. I'd be going balls out to bring a player of that quality here if I were stuart.

Cracking post @Feats Don't Fail Me Now@Feats Don't Fail Me Now and not a mention of Stuart ;).
As you say It should be more of a level playing field where the players brought in have to be fit for purpose and ready for selection.

    Great post

Great post - at the moment what determines success - how much money is you chairman prepared to fork out from his pocket - not how good you are at developing players, how good you are are recruitment, how good you are managing a team and keeping them are peak fitness. This reliance on getting an owner with loads of money has led to more and more teams having owners who not have an allegiance to the team they own - its either vanity ownership, or a plaything or in the case of PL clubs a way to make money. These owners are not fans of the club they own. Hopefully the salary cap with lead to a lower cost of ownership of a football club which will in turn give local business men who are fans of a club a chance at owning that club.

Ok. I think I get it now. I still think we should spend now to build the best squad we can so we are in a competitive position come January. However, counter to my own thinking above, if we did suffer a long term injury, and had funds available within the cap, we might not need to wait until the January window as potentially there will be numerous out of contract players available

Update from Parker. Clearly we're sat twiddling our thumbs waiting for the big boys to dictate to us rather than placing deadlines on clubs to prevent us being messed around. And should the clubs say no, we're presumably going to be up shit creek because we've let it drag on too long.

If you put deadlines on players you want on loan the premiership parent clubs would tell you politely to pxxx off

What so we just wait around, hoping for the best, whilst other targets go elsewhere?

Depends how much you want a particular player. If it doesn't’ happen then move on it’s a long season.
