City Sign Levi Sutton

Just mentioned this to someone, this has to be the player signed for the right back role. Not right wing, or midfield, or centre back or any other place we are short. The term 'can play a number of positions' equates to players like Devine who never hold a position down.

 

Given that Stuart has seen both of them play and managed them both, I will trust Stuart on this decision for now

 

50 games at that age is either one of the two choices you mention or a premier league player that has hung around the club too long. And he ain't a premiership player.

 

As others have said, it's a lazy signing. Cheap and McCall knows him so ticks every box for us. Seems to be a jack of all trades, master of none type, who was only rated at his last club because he's a local lad. Not to mention he's facing a three game suspension at the start of the season. So forgive me if I think this signing is pants.

 

Have to see what happens, he can't be any worse than Mellor. You'll be able to tell after a few games whether he's good enough.

 

Ambitions of promotion?

Only from the fans, the people involved in the running of the club are clearly happy to just allow the club to just endlessly plod on.

Is he a right back or a midfielder. I don't want a player who can play both, i want one who can play right back and at least two who can play midfield. Unless you happen to be as good as Alexander Arnold you aren't good enough to play two positions. I hope we've signed him for a particular position.

Don't see anything wrong with the signing tbh.
Every squad needs a player or 2 like him and he'll replace Devine / Anderson in the squad. Scunny offered him a contract I believe pre covid and he will now be cheap.
The days of signing 'first team' players will not be back until the club can confirm paying fans will be back or its a massive bargain as players become desperate.
Most clubs are in all out survival mode and I expect a significant number of teams will struggle to fill a first XI, let alone a bench.

Yeah - most sensible clubs will wait.

Aside from the potential wage cap, signing players NOW might mean you end up paying well over the odds.

Sign them in a month or two, and reality will have set in with the agents and deals will be made.

With so many lower league players out of contract, there really is no desperate rush for any name. Bolton have rushed in any signed Doyle on a massive wage - which could be a catastrophic mistake, let's face it. There really aren't any players that are so good that they must be signed immediately - so I'm finding it a bit bizarre that these clubs are filling up now and not waiting.
