James Hanson was certainly well past his best when the Blunts bought him to do a specific job for a short stretch of the season. But despite his injuries he had been playing games intermittently and had even scored a hat trick in the fairly recent past before moving.

But Josh Wright is on a three year contract, I believe. He played a handful of games (very badly) in the first couple of months of this season. If he sits out his full contract without playing, by the end of it he'll have done nothing of any note since leaving Gillingham (counting his year at Southend as a failure) - ie for 5 years - and nothing at all for nearly three whole seasons.
He might get a move to a L2 club on drastically reduced wages after that, but I doubt it.
There's also the self respect issue. He was PoS at Gillingham two years ago, so he's clearly got some talent. But something has gone drastically wrong since then. If he's happy to go from that to being paid to do nothing for nearly three years then that wouldn't say much about his character.

    Character.

So if you were getting let's say 5k per week/20k per month. 240k per year and me your manager wanted to bomb you out after a few games and not understanding that some people settle at different times which isn't your fault and doesn't want you involved because I was trying to force you out you would turn round to me and tell me to F off.

You also look about and think you would have to take a wage cut of near enough 50% again you would tell me to do one.

Look, you're human with brains. Stop thinking like a fan!

If I did manage your arse I would have you washing my Merc because your thought process is all wrong.

It's Bradford City's fault not Weight, Reeves or any other player that we want out by not even putting them in the shop window.

This is my last attempt on this topic. If we put Wright in the shop window by playing him we will get fewer points, making relegation more likely. On top of that we will be advertising how rubbish Wright is, thus reducing the likelihood anyone will want him. If anyone's thought processes are all wrong, it's yours. Wright might not like it, but the fact is he is paid an awful lot more than he is worth and shouldn't be in the team or at our club. He can sit on his contract and do nothing, but that is the end of his career.

Utter rubbish. Clubs do it all the time. Clubs will give a player 5 - 10 mins to remind clubs the player is about.

What you don't do is put a player down, not play them, highlight you're forcing them out. That's madness as you won't get many takers

No it won't be the end of his career if he sits on his contract at al! Far from it. Even if it is he will have a cool 500k for doing nothing from
City. I would take that and so would you.. you're lying if you won't.

In our situation we can't afford to bring on someone as bad as Wright for any amount of time. It Might be important to get them out, but not as important as league one survival. Which would be much less likely with him in the squad. The fact we have a centre back who is a better midfielder than him shows all we need to know.

Yes annoying and a symptom that afflicted a number of players including Akpan at the beginning of the season - lack of fitness? As a midfielder Wright has more defensive duties than a forward - his was poor and his tackling was almost non existent. ( pre and post Hopkin).

We play O'Connor who is woeful.

We buy/loan players that have spent long on the treatment table that Alex Jones.

Don't give me City can't afford this that and the other!

Clearly in Wright, Reeves and others they're players in there or they wouldn't have so many appearances and no player as yet in Devine as he has sat on the bench for the last 3 years doing what Wright is doing but at a younger age!

jack payne, wasn't unfit against burton - he was lazy. it is the forwards job to defend from the front.. he was obviously reminded of his duties between saturday and tuesday night as everytime shrewsbury's RCB received the ball and started to come forward with it, payne, tracked across to cut out the space for him to go into. something he failed to do at burton and we were 1-0 down and chasing the game.

can't have it one rule for one and not the others - being an attacking and creative player does not exempt payne, ball, o'brien or any of the others from doing their defensive duties.

in the words of, johan cruyff, i think it was, "your attacker is your first defender and your goalkeeper is your first attacker."

i've been saying for the past 2 years devine needs to decide whether he is a professional footballer or not.. unfortunately he seemed to have had the confidence knocked out of him by previous managers and hasn't ever recovered from being dropped when he was playing well.

The comment, “As long as they train correctly, then we will see’, suggests that they are training with City. is this with the first team squad or are they working with the junior players, or on their own?

I know @Bronco@Bronco use to go down to Apperley Bridge to watch training from time to time ( and one or two others). Does anyone know what is actually happening?

    Yeah I am.

I'm saying Devine is wasting his career here and hasn't earnt enough to be sitting about. He isn't at a PL club. He needs to play games!

You are right about the Burton goal. I noticed that too but I don't think it's the norm for Payne. Usually I am impressed with his work rate and closing down the opposition

I don’t know why I’m rising to it but, he won’t take much of a pay cut. He has a legally binding contract with City to earn (say) £750k over three years. Unless he breaches the terms they have to pay him that money. In moving somewhere else in the summer he will agree wages and City will pay the difference or in the alternative buy his contract off him for something like half the outstanding value. His decision is then to accept it or not and try to make as much as he can elsewhere.

I give you Ashley Ward, and Benito Carboni both we’re owed millions by this club. Did they refuse to leave? No they did not, they got on with their careers waving owed wages. 1 They wanted to play football and not sit on their arse. 2. They knew if they enforced their contract this club would have certainly gone under. I am not certain of the next player, but one David Hopkin also waves wages owed?

So don’t give me all footballers are mercenaries and are happy to sit out their careers for the sake of lucrative contracts. You are absolutely right about one thing though it is the club otherwise known as Rahic Vanity Club is wholly to blame for handing out contracts to players who are nowhere near good enough.

Depends how his contract has been drawn up. Is he paid x amount a week regardless or is it dependant on appearances and if so, how heavily is it weighted?

If a player is sold then they're not on always on the same wages at the club they join. Sometimes less, sometimes more.

A club doesn't have to pay the wage difference. They might be bonuses that have to be paid but not wage differences or future wages.

In loan agreements like for example Jones it will happen but that's why he's gone out on loan but when joining a club full time no the contract is started again.

No one came in with a loan bid about from Gibson & Jones hence why why left.

Anyone who blames Wright for stating isn't leaving in the real world.
