While we'd like to smash a bunch of goals past teams like York, one glance at the various XI's we've fielded in the first two friendlies show we haven't put out anything like our first eleven.

The first XI, probably, is going to be okay. Yes, we have nothing out wide in terms of experience, and that's a concern - yes, our striker situation is also concerning particularly if we sell Wyke, BUT ---

What these friendlies have outlined for me, personally, is that we are signing far too many players who lack the quality to be first team contenders not only right now, but in the years to come.

That's not a surprise, considering how badly the last development squad farce fared. Signing a million and one youngsters who haven't a hope of making it just isn't a good policy, no matter how cheap they are.

While players like Riley and Seedorf may or may not be good enough for League One football right now, there's no question that players like Gunner, Brunker, Patrick, and Devine lack the potential to make it.

It's likely (but not certain) that we can add Isherwood, Wood, and a few others to that list, but we're too busy pussy-footing around the subject of inadequacy that we aren't trying to offload these guys (who are here to make up numbers and nothing else).

The development squad is ridiculous, and we won't make a penny out of it.

The only player we signed worth a penny is Wyke - and we've gone from demanding £5 million to considering £500,000 in the space of seven months.

Why anyone would take us seriously as high-end sellers I've no idea - we should have rejected the Wyke bid out of hand and publicly declared it as 'derisory', but then we don't really know what we're doing.

At the very top of this club sits a guy with no real idea how to progress us going forward. He sacked a very popular and solid, experienced manager, replacing him with a guy who wouldn't renew terms after only six months, and then replaced HIM with a fella from the U18's coaching staff.

We have signed a bunch of players with absolutely zero value, and signed another handful for a considerable collective sum of money, and they're worth naff all as well, Wyke excepted. Now, we're on the verge of selling our one asset for a figure that WILL NOT cover the value of the other players we signed. We have a 'hope' that players like Jones and McCarten might come good, but probably won't, and we have a squad full of experienced centre backs and defensive midfielders and virtually nothing else.

What's more, the individual that was in charge of our god awful, overly expensive recruitment is now our assistant manager, because it was probably easier to blame Stuart for our downturn in form last season than the team that FAILED to sign a single decent centre back capable of playing more than three games despite the obvious deficiency. Don't worry, though, now that our promotion push is well behind us, we've brought in four.

    Great work, guys.

    Great f---ing work.

Already the warning signs are loud and clear. Kids being led by rookies. Recipe for disaster. Deluded chairman and even more deluded fans who support
    this.

The worrying thing for me is that before the friendlies started Collins came out publicly and stated that we were taking the friendlies seriously. Jesus wept!!! If two defeats and one goal is taking it seriously then we’re in for a long tough season. It’ll all end in tears come May trust me.

I’m not one for outlandish and rash judgements. But we’re going to be dog shit this season.

Congratulations. Were you there a few yrs ago at York for pre season? I travelled from the western isles for that feast of football, so do i get some kind of pre season at york, top trumps? We only took a few to St Johnstone as well, i thought to myself at the time as i basked in the perth heatwave, how piss poor it was  i was sitting there for 90 mins seething, not because i drove 5 hrs for a loss, but because of how lazy our fans were. What a ridiculous post.

The atmosphere is crap at the club and with good reasons, the fans are split. I tell you what, these first couple of pre season games were an opportunity to build some confidence and get a few of the doubters on side perhaps, bearing in mind they are only friendlies. After all, the gaffer said he was taking it seriously. Which is a worry. It is so far working like a dream.

As others say, it was john smiths cup day in York. England were playing too. And ultimately, our joint owners have done bugger all to warrant many fans seeing why they should even bother going to a game like today. I don't blame them for staying away, it was clearly the correct choice.

Absolute bollox. The players signed, the lack of quality and the fact we have 1 failed coach shepherding 2 rookie ones, is what has drained the optimism.

It has nothing to do with falling out of love...!

Silver - I dont care one jot about losing pre-season friendly matches (although winning is a good habit to have!), I do care that we have hardly created a chance in the 2 games so far and that, if we are being totally honest, the club is still in the mess that was starting to develop end of last year. I hate the negativity around the club but I also know brushing it under the carpet is not going to help. I just hope we put out a semblance of the team that is likely to start in less than 3 weeks time and we give a more positive showing against Sheff U on Tuesday just to lift the mood. Whatever you think mate things are NOT good at the club, there are many issues bubbling under and everyone is looking for a few signs of progress to produce a more upbeat atmosphere.

No shots and only got into their box twice. How does our new coach hope to score goals when all we did in the second half today was pass the ball sideways in defence and midfield. There was no attempt to go forward at all. We could have all gone home at half time. I know it’s only a friendly and the result doesn’t matter but let’s make some effort to score.

Never been particularly bothered by friendly results, you only have to look at some of the ridiculous scores today to see they mean shit, and Sunderland who will walk the league lost to Darlington on Tuesday.

However there was a big worry from me today which is unusual for this time of year. And that is when I saw the team sheet I predicted a loss and that we wouldn't score. I didn't predict it because I'm some sort of footballing genius, wish I was. But because I looked at our "front 3" of Seedorf, Hudson and Gibson. Regardless of our defence and midfield we were never going to score with 3 kids who have about 5 professional games and 1 goal between them, plus they are wingers not strikers.

Whether Wyke stays or goes this highlighted the need for quality up front and quick, if that's our lineup at the start of the season then we'll be in deep shit. We need 2, or 3 if Wyke goes. And no Bruenker isn't going to cut it at our level, he shouldn't be near the bench let alone on the pitch.

For me it's the way the team affairs are been run with the chairman interfering and more or less picking the team lack of investment in the squad , the model of selling off the younger more talented players it's a recipe for disaster...mark my words when these two have left our club it's what's going to be left that worrys me.

The result doesn't matter in pre season but the performance does.

Seriously, our coach is going to struggle.

I seem reluctant because i saw what the product on the pitch. I went to nearly every game home and away. What i saw, in my own opinion, was a team that in no way could sustain the position in the table, the performances did not justify the position in the table, even if the results did. It may have come as a shock to some that we dropped down the table, it came as no surprise to me. What did shock was how McCall had kept such a piss poor squad, at a club that was in turmoil behind the scenes, so high for so long. Looks like i was proved right.

For the third time, don't let the position in the table fool you. We finished where that team should have finished. It was never good enough. Winning games without a shot on target or one or two shots on goal, its not sustainable.

Never took friendly games serious results wise seen us win them then struggle in the season and vice versa lose them and then have a goodish season. Do I think we are strong enough as it stands no I don't, think we need another 4 1st team players not just squad players.

The least i would have expected is some goals against part time opposition. 1 goal in 2 games against non league sides, Houston we have a problem :D.

Well were stuck with these owners and this so called model but IMO we are in for a fall big time if we dont get some investment into the first team squad !
