You can easily find hypocrisy in whataboutism, that's why so many social media dummies rely on it.

The lack of moral perfection does NOT render all other causes pointless, and those that assume that are lazy.

    England.

    Once in a lifetime feat.

City can earn promotion any season.

England can win the Euro’s every four years, why would that be ‘once in a lifetime’?
Alternatively they can win the World Cup.
So once in every two years there is the opportunity for England to win a major tournament.

Tbh, at the moment, because it’d be such a one off, and maybe the only time I’d see England win a major tournament, my vote goes for them. Though it is very close, under normal circumstances it’d be City every time. Be nice to be up here and us win it.

I know that we're out of the EU and we are likely to have a Tory government for another six years. I've no choice but to accept those things, even if I hate them. That's not the issue.

This government and what it stands for, are light years away from the values espoused by Southgate, Sterling, Rashford et al. It will be the height of hypocrisy if they jump on the football bandwagon (which they otherwise have no interest in whatsoever, being largely a bunch of public school rugger-buggers) and try to use it for their own jingoistic purposes. But then hypocrisy and this government go hand in glove.

And as for 'never miss an opportunity' - I have been unusually quiet on the political/Brexit front for months. I've seen lots of opportunities to post critical material but have chosen not to, because banging my head against a brick wall becomes tedious after a while.

People with differing views especially on something like Brexit will rarely find common ground. One thing we can all agree on is that politicians of any persuasion will seize on a photo or publicity opportunity when it comes up. Sporting success usually provides that opportunity.

I really hope the country can put its differences to one side and come together tonight.
In the 70s & 80s the national front and later the EDL tried to hijack the football team and our flag, in the 90s Blair was as bad as Boris is now. Remember the Cool Britannia nonsense culminating in Prescott getting a bucket of water tipped over his head when made to attend the Brits!
At the Rugby World Cup in 2018 Brain Moore very publicly told Boris the bandwagon to f**k off when he appeared on the telly in his replica England jersey.
The England team, the flag and our nationality are NOT something attached to a political belief ! From the staunchest guardian reading remainers to the most hardline sun reading leavers, from the COVID cautious to the conspiracy theory nut jobs, get behind the team FFS!!
We were England before Brexit and we’ll still be England in the future, no matter what our idiot leaders do or don’t do they can’t take away our birthright!
Across the Nation, in Pubs & Bars, at BBQs and living rooms all over the land let’s all be as one and cheer England to victory! (Unless it is at the expense of a City promotion in which case Come on Italy!)

So we lost the Euros final and I don't feel half as bad as after a City defeat.
Maybe it's because we will not have all the part timers telling us how great England are.
I suppose there will be all the usual mob violence around by the usual scum, so overall, yes, City mean much more to me than Engerland

Quite possibly but as above Jaybee just said the part time element also dilutes it for me. I’ve just had a lass on messaging me who moans about football for two years then says it’s coming home for 4 weeks, telling me when I said I’m used to seeing my teams lose at Wembley, that Bradford is nothing in comparison. Spoken like a true bandwagoner and as I’ve had a few drinks I didn’t receive such a comment well.

That was a given unfortunately. Total arrogance and feeling superior to every other nation.

You’d like to think with age comes wisdom, but I’ve a feeling their traits are being passed down to the next generation and so the cycle continues.

Yes we deserved it, no other country has suffered in the last 18 months. Let’s win a game of football that’ll make everything alright and Italy haven’t had it tough…

    This.

I've travelled all over the place, never had an issue because I am English - apart from a badly timed joke I made in Argentina about the Falklands so I probably brought that on myself.

The people I know who claim everyone hates us are unlikely to have gone anywhere save from Benidorm or England away games. They might want to think about why people they come across on those trips have an issue with them.

Or just someone who doesn't understand what a question is. The question which you would rather happen. So there are only two possible anwsers. It doesn't matter that they don't relate to each other

Some people just really, really can't make decisions.

This one isn't even particularly challenging as far as hypotheticals go! Even more so knowing your choice is irrelevant :joy:
