England being outclassed all over the park so far. Being a complete novice to the Women's game, I have to confess how surprised I am with the power and pace shown by the USA so far tonight, first time I have ever seen them play

As for England, they look very vulnerable at the back, and seem to struggle as much as City did last season at defending set pieces

Having said all that, only one goal in it, so you never know

    Absolutely.

My daughter is taking a real interest in football for the first time. The world Cup has been great.

Completely. And for Steph too. Never thought I’d find myself shouting at the TV watching women’s football

Even if that penalty had gone in I still fancied America to score again
They were the better team on the night and luck was on their side (var)
Before the tournament started wasn't really bothered but what a refreshing change
not to see imaginary yellow cards fighting at corners rolling on the floor in pretend agony
trying to get opponents sent off
Our male footballers should take note
No need for any of that in the game

I thought it was close and i wouldn’t say we were outclassed, England were well on top after White’s disallowed goal. Keira White was very unlucky with that long shot, first half, great save by the USA keeper, and also the near own goal. Their time will come, hopefully learn from this one and come back stronger. They are not miles behind the USA.

I’ve watched a few women’s games on tv prior to this WC and I thought the England v Scotland game was a decent standard, technically there was some really good play and interchanges. Good simple passing done well at times. Ok it is slower pace but tbh i don’t try and compare it to the mens game, it is what it is and there is plenty to like about it, as alluded to above by BiG - no pathetic play acting etc. Hopefully they keep playing this way and if more money becomes involved in the game it doesn’t change it.

I have a daughter who likes to play football and i think it is great how the women’s game is progressing. And as for goalkeeping standard, anyone actually watching the game yesterday would have seen a great display from the Scotland keeper, Alexander was her surname i think, she made some good saves.

Yeah likewise with some of the other comments, the standard has definitely improved over the last few years since I saw my first women’s game. I thought the 2nd England goal was a great finish and showed that the players are technically very good. The physical side will never be the same as the men but I think the sooner we stop comparing men’s and women’s football and see them as desperate sports the better.

I also like the professionalism and behaviour of the players and the crowd is another huge bonus. Compared with the embarrassing morons that follow the England men this has a great family feel to it.

There’s also a media agenda to ram down people’s throats ‘how high the quality is’. It isn’t. It’s shit. But you can’t have a sensible conversation about ‘equality’ these days. I was having a chat with some work colleagues earlier which included a couple of women. One of the women seemed particularly into it but there was apathy amongst the rest - I made the suggestion that their games would be better to watch and the quality would be forced to improve by making the pitches and goals slightly smaller to compensate for the size and strength/power difference between men and women. I was basically told that my views were sexist. FFS.

Not sure about a smaller pitch, it'd be like watching an out of control pin ball machine.

I agree, the quality is shit, its not like tennis where a top woman could beat a pro man, the gap is so big it makes uninteresting viewing for me. As for pay, they don't deserve much if Thackley's academy might spank them 5-0 after a night on the piss.

I think the main thing, for those of us with daughters, it gives them opportunity to participate in a game that not long they didn’t really have the opportunity. I don’t directly compare it with the mens game as it is different. But to me that’s the main thing, fair enough if men don’t rate it - but it’s not for us, primarily, is it? Some people seem to get their knickers in a bit of a twist over something they apparently are not interested in and has no real impact on the mens game they prefer. Good luck to them, i reckon. The women’s game is improving and long may that continue.

The Cameroon reaction to the VAR incidents is the funniest thing I've ever seen on a football pitch.

The football game was a poor second to VAR and poor discipline from Cameroon today,

the tackle on Houghton would be a red in the premier league, not sure what they see sometimes.

Why are only women officiating at the tournament? On more than one level, that makes no sense to me.

    Into another semi final,

    Getting bloody boring is this.

Have no idea how they kept a clean sheet, except of course we have saint steph, what a player.

One big difference in the women's game, Norway could easily have had a penalty and Bardsley sent off but she didn't go down and chased the ball instead.
How many men would have gone down?

Maybe when we play Liverpool Steph can bring the World Cup along with the Champions League Cup, as that will be the nearest we come to Silverware ;)
It can't compare with the mens game but like it or not last nights game was exciting, maybe the result flattered England as the Norway team played very well and some great defending kept them from scoring, Darbs must have coached Steph how to defend the goal line as he did so many times for us, roll on the semi final.
