He's got Mansfield to their best position in 20 years (left them 5th in League 2)
He's got Gillingham to back to back 10th placed finishes in League 1 (bettered only once in the last 15 years)

His record suggests he's not a spent force.

I would prefer others but Evans hasn't lost his ability.

Exactly. Even if Evans was as pure as the driven snow and didn't have a blemish to his name I still wouldn't want him as our next manager. Why? Because just like Grayson, he is living on past glories and is no longer as good as he thinks he is.

As everybody else has said, an experienced DoF absolutely has to be the next appointment that this club makes and then a manager should follow to align with the plan set out above him.

Whether Sparks will be willing to admit his deficiencies on the football side of things and make such an appointment is anyone's guess. But I won't hold my breath.

Although my first choice is Grant McCann, I'd happily take a Woodgate / Jewell partnership with Jewell the DoF (wouldn't mind him alongside Woodgate either).
Woodgate being an up and coming manager whose had previous experience at Bournemouth and Jewell an old hand.
Would be a good partnership for me.

Has anyone other than Evans actually said they'd consider the job? Makes me laugh that just because Morais and Jones speak well on the radio, then that automatically qualifies them as manager potential. Same with Jagger - he says a few words about what he thinks is wrong at the club, and now everyone thinks he's a candidate for the DoF role (which we don't even have).
Sadly, I think Evans is probably the only realistic candidate. Rupp and Sparks have put pay to this club being seen as attractive.

Applicants are into 3 figures we are told. The majority probably deserve to go straight in the bin but hopefully there will be at least a handful of decent candidates in there somewhere. I'd much rather we go for someone quietly confident of their abilities than a has been that is practically down on his hands and knees begging for the job.

Yes Woodgate said he would apply. Jewel has loads of experience as a manager and DOF. I agree about Morais and Jones. Jones doesn’t have his qualifications and I don’t think he is interested. Morais I have no idea. Sparks was saying his inbox is in three figures of ppl wanting to apply. Of course the best footballer this club has ever had in my view is also applying.

3 figures and that fat abusive turd is in line to get the job. Hope Ryan has had someone have a word in his ear.

So who are the other candidates you’re judging him against to reach the conclusion? You clearly know of more than mentioned on here. Come on, spill then we can have a proper debate and don’t ask me, I don’t know.

I used the word "probably", which implies I'm not 100% certain he's the best candidate, but hazarding a pretty confident guess. Out of all the unemployed managers which are more experienced, more successful and worked in higher divisions than Evans, I can't think of many who would want to come to Bradford City. It's a poisoned chalice in terms of job stability. In terms of the appalling budget bin signings we made during the last window, coupled with the payoff we've paid Adams, I'd also speculate that we don't have an attractive salary for someone to drop divisions. We've got a disinterested owner, and an inexperienced CEO. The club has absolutely no focus or idea of what direction it wants to go in. Its losing its identity and its fans. The shambles on the pitch is just the tip of the iceberg. Tough digs for any manager who takes on the job, but fair play to all the hundreds who are applying. The manager at Halifax looks a good prospect, but I don't think he's ready for a step up just yet. Carbone, Fowler, Morais, Jones....all a joke. So yes, I can't think of anyone who is more suitable than Evans, who has "probably" applied for the role.

I don't know more than anyone has mentioned on here. What makes you think that? The new manager debate has been hot enough as it is - not sure why you're getting on your high horse about this. Isn't that the whole reason you left this forum?

This is what makes 50% of us hypocrites… the ONLY reason people don’t want Evans is because of something he said 10 years ago.
Yet here you are calling the guy fat and a turd??? It’s incredible really how stupid some are. Evans plays a character on the touch line, he winds everyone up and it works. If any of you actually took the time to listen to the bloke or look him up rather than reading Facebook and Twitter then you’d realise he’s actually really well liked within the game and does a massive amount of charity work in his own personal time with his family.
Sick of the embarrassing comments on here from people who don’t have a clue outside of their little Bradford city bubble. Ignorance is bliss I guess.

I think most people, me included, don't want him here because he has done nothing of note in the past 8 years or so. He has recently been sacked for 'guiding' Gillingham to the bottom 2 of league 1. So, forgive me and others who think appointing him is a backward step.

Completely respect that opinion. He’s not who I want here either…. It’s the other comments that I think are ridiculous.

Jags as DOF with McCan, Woodgate or Wild and I’d be happy with that.
Sparks needs someone to take the burden of football side on more and stick to commercial and non football decisions (where he seems to be quite compentent)
Anyone else out there who might make a good DOF?
