No doubt we would have given him a new contract if we got promoted. But when his present one runs out at the of June there’s no clubs that will be offering any contracts until they have a definitive, 100% certain start date.

Whatever the format of the remaining games, as you say it has nothing to do with footballing integrity. It is simply to ensure that the PL fulfils its obligations to the TV broadcasters so that the remainder of the money due to them this season isn't withheld for contractual reasons. The PL owners will do whatever it takes to make sure they don't lose out financially. Their concern is with themselves and sod the rest of the football sector. If it means that only PL games are fulfilled but not those in the EFL, so be it.

The added incentive to a small number of PL clubs is that it will also finalise the standings for the CL which of course is another huge money spinner for those involved.

Like there won't be 'very messy legal action' if anyone is relegated from the Premier League without the season ending?

If the season doesn't end, there'll be legal action in pretty much any scenario you'd care to call out. The most 'fair' outcome would probably be to void the whole thing for reasons of force majeure, but even then I'm sure there'd be legal cases forthcoming.

The whole thing is messy. There isn't an 'unmessy' way out. Even completing the season behind closed doors is messy.

In order for the players to be quarantined for 2 weeks first which is a good move in my opinion. I think it'll be a case of us and probably everyone else watching what germany do and eventually following their lead with regards to football.

Apologies if this has already been mentioned, but I watched the whole DCMS committee meeting yesterday and here are the points I got out of it.

    * Players were happy to accept a pay cut. They were consulted on this, but then the PFA appointed deloitte to explore the finances of clubs and decide whether they really needed to take a pay cut. So the PFA are acting in the interests of the players... hardly a surprise there.

    * Rick Parry had not had discussions in regards to shortened halves but he said if it was being considered, it would be to protect players because of the intensity of getting the games played. He also said he was aware they were considering upping the numbers of subs allowed.

    * Rick Parry was asked how many clubs he thinks will go under during this crisis. He wouldn't give an answer and said they are working hard to ensure NO clubs go under.

    * Because of the situation with players contracts he feels a decision will have to be made regardless on the EFL within the new few days. He thinks players are unlikely to want to play for their clubs with an extension to their contracts, risking severance pay when some of them know they will not have their contract renewed.

    * Financial model of clubs is unsustainable. With an average of 108% of income being spent on players.

    * Beyond getting this and next season played, they would have to look at a complete restructure of the leagues. (I know we've discussed this several times on this thread, but it seems like a reality).

    * He would not use the term 'bail out' but he did say a 'rescue package' will be needed for the lower leagues but the premier league will only look at supporting when they are allowed to complete this season.

    * Parachute payments are evil.

    * Club salary caps and squad size caps may need to be introduced.

    * Phillip Davies had a city tie on and got mocked for being a season ticket holder.

The Dutch health minister has announced there will be no crowds at football matches until a vaccine is found.

    * madness decision. That's the Dutch football finished completely.

    1) a vaccine could take 12/18 months
    2) might not ever be a vaccine

Me too Dave, that would put the icing on the cake for me, I'd be done with going to watch football except maybe a non-league game?

    Seen this all over today.

I don't really see the point. The new measures seem positive and pretty clear.

Things like this that trivialise it are a bit pathetic to be honest.

In most cases I don't think it will be the individuals making excuses not to go to work. Let's face it, it's not their decision anyway. However I can see lots of companies choosing not to bring people back to work until October, and yes I see job losses too.

League two is now finished according to twitter. Weighted points per game to decide. Clubs can’t afford testing and to take players off of furlough. Awaiting for board to ratify it.

about time someone made a decision

Exactly. We are living in cloud cuckoo land! More than 8 million workers in the UK are having their wages subsidised, or more correctly, largely paid for by the Govt and it will end in a few months time. Whilst having the furlough scheme is helpful in keeping businesses dormant but alive, it is also keeping those 8 million out of the unemployment numbers. Once the furlough scheme has been removed in the autumn (or even earlier) and the economic reality of Covid 19 hits home, things will change dramatically and we'll all be facing a very different economic outlook. Some businesses will have gone to the wall; most workers in those businesses won't have a job and many businesses will either downsize or realise they can do what they do with fewer staff. It's all inevitable and that's before Sunak looks at how the nation's books have to be balanced. Most of us will be the poorer imo because of Covid 19 and of course other things which will be impacting on our economy in the very near future.

The furlough scheme was a great idea and the speed of implementation was staggering, BUT.......
It was just too easy. Any company, any size could take advantage regardless of whether they needed to our not. Their was no incentive whatsoever for companies to try to retain staff without it. I believe it has been massively abused
