I’ll be the first to give the new lads a fair crack and I didn’t expect the world in the window, what I did expect was that we would replace like for like in terms of wages, you know to show some intent given we are in the playoffs

How many clubs would look to reduce their wage bill in January window when ‘supposedly’ pushing for promotion, just doesn’t happen

edit. and reduce the size of the squad, any team pushing looks to increase numbers to cover for injuries not cut back

I don't know who 'they' are but it's not true. Last year's 'deficit' (whatever that is) was funded largely by the sell-ons from the Wells and Wisdom transfers. The McBurnie sale wasn't even concluded last year for it to be included in last year's financials and the current financial year was well underway before the details were agreed between the Blades and Swansea. I'd hope that even the Rhodes playbook would draw a line at false accounting! Your guess is only partially correct. The McBurnie fee is being paid in instalments this season and all of it before the season ends.

I saw some screenshot of a guy explaining it on Twitter.

I haven't looked at the financials for a while. Did we break even last year?

Now that is conning the fans. Doing everything possible to put us back in lg1 where he found a well managed club is blatant lying if that is the case. I take that kind of statement from an owner who allowed a complete maniac loose on our club as every single penny should be ploughed in. Your own time should given free as compensation to the fans. If you say you will cover the overdraft run up by said maniac you do that and plough in any money coming from sales of players reinvested into either like the pitch or new players.

I've now read it. And it doesn't make sense to me. He doesn't explain how last season's loses were covered. Businesses cannot go around using money received this season which is still being received to clear last season's losses.

Well that is my theory blown out of the water then. We owed 2.4 mill and no idea how that was covered? Did we carry that overdraft over to this year, and maybe we still are overdrawn, but the money coming in from player sales are reducing the overdraft?

The fininacials aren't out for last season are they?

I can only assume that Rupp covered the cash shortfall until the McBurnie money actually hit.

As you say they can't do that in an accounting sense however I suppose that the account date is arbitrary to some extent. If we made a £2m loss up to the date of the accounts but then the extra money came in a couple of months later they realistically have broken even over the 2 year period, just not on the day that last seasons accounts were finalised.

The spiral of death. Usually called cash flow problems but goes far deeper. 'Its alright, we'll pay it back when the 'money' comes in'. The McBurnie money dictates we aren't suddenly going to drop deep in the financial mire but only if used correctly. If its just gone to wipe part of a debt off then the underlying problems of long term remain.

Cant believe anyone still.defends rupp. Hes the owner and is accountable.

No normal club weakens there squad to the extent we have during a january window when claiming funds would be available to manager.

Yes minimum funds available if we get rid of our only assets in the window.

No that's not possible. The year end dates are not arbitrary. Whatever happens up to that date (30 June in our case) goes into that financial year. Anything which happens after that date eg money received from the McBurnie deal goes into the following year.

Last season's acounts are due to be made public shortly.

Isn't that why if you're doing well your accountant tells you to somehow get rid of money near the end of the financial tax year or you'll only pay more tax on it?

In real terms they are. They're just a cut off point.

If you owe £2m on 30th June but get £2m in on the 30th July then the accounts will show one thing but the reality is that they've covered the loss.

We had high wage earners before Rupp sanctioned Vaughan and Donaldson’s wages which would be considerable, So something has definitely changed. Whether reality has kicked in and they know 20k ST’s is a pipe dream or they’ve realised it’s not going to get better with Bowyer or Rupp has accepted he’s going to lose much more than he was prepared for. As bad as it is on the pitch, incredibly we are still in a playoff spot. It absolutely looks like we have thrown the towel in and accepted it ain’t gonna happen. Mid table beckons. The club needs to wake up and speak positive because less than 10k ST’s is on the cards.

Ryan Sparks confirmed on Radio Leeds that no planned financial cost cutting exercise in this window. The exits were for other reasons, footballing reasons.
