    That's my view.

We're not skint and we certainly aren't about to be placed in administration as one wum posted. But we are going through some belt tightening. It suggests to me that Rupp has realised that nobody will buy the club from him at his rumoured price and he has to look at other ways of recovering some of his original investment. Some big earners leaving the club will help that cause as will not spending money on the pitch and not filling backroom vacancies. Not backing GB in the transfer window as he said he wouldi adds to that as would trying to get more cash in through earlier ST sales.

Any one of these might be insignificant in isolation. But taken together they paint a dufferent picture. Unfortunately he has a long way to go imo if he even expects to get his original investment back. And that doesn't augur well for our future.

He’s lost the majority of the money he’s put in, he has to accept that. Where his gamble lies is asking is the club more saleable in League One riding the crest of a promotion wave or deflated in League Two needing another squad rebuild?
As all gamblers know, you don’t chase your money and, having worked for a German company the last 15 years, their mind set isn’t to gamble.
I think he’s decided enough’s enough, especially after the wheels have come off so badly on the field in the last two months. Club is to be self financing and if a buyer comes along, all well and good.

A team that's in 7th and supposedly going for promotion doesn't do what they have done this window.

    Something is certainly going on.

I can't see how anyone can be happy with that window to be honest. It was a disgrace.
Like someone else said above. For a team sat in 7th and looking for promotion then it is an absolutely bizarre window. The quality of players we have bought in compared to the money saved on wages tells me all I need to know.
We are having to make big cut backs.. Teams around us have strengthened in January and we are far weaker. It makes no sense at all.

i dont agree its a disgrace, disgrace is a very over the top word. Novak is an experienced pro. He will score more goals that Doyle would have for us.

its not an easy scenario when your skipper wants away late in the transfer window. I cant say i was a huge fan

New fsces, new returning players from injury.

Best thing we can do is get behind the team now and judge based on actual football results, if this negativity continues it will drag us down.

I agree with most of what you have said Biker - I think we need to just take a step back and realise Doyle was NOT a positive influence in the dressing room and really didnt want to be here for a whole range of reason and views on Vaughan are a bit like marmite. On paper the incomings dont really raise the pulse but I hate this slagging off of players before we have seen them play for us (they might not be the most gifted but if they give 100% isnt that what us fans always say is all we ask for?)
The problem is the negativity is already deep rooted with Bowyer, if we lose at Oldham sadly I cant see anything other than another outpouring of protest against him. He is a very strange character, at times he comes across a very decent man but then comes out with complete drivel that the fans can see through straight away - if he is playing games then he needs to realise its not working. And now the commitment and leadership of Rupp and Rhodes will come under even greater scrutiny, their absolute silence has been deafening so people can and will only judge on what they see as a very underwhelming January.
I just hope we continue to show the commitment from Tuesday and hopefully add an end result today - or I fear its going to be a really difficult environment for the new players to come into next week.

Is Rupp trying to get as much money together as possible before he sells up

Conspiracy Theory 752. No sure anything is going on tbh, there isnt a bottomless pitt. The club is still saddled with expensive players from Rahic era dont forget.

january is a tricky time to get strikers in, many will chose to wait 4 months for a move, personally i feel we have done ok with these signings and i am pleased we have added some bite and physicality.

    Expensive doesnt always mean good.

I do think Vaughan is a big loss. But I am pleased we have signed a big physical forward what we have missed all season.
On top of that we have the return of Devitt and Donaldson who will be like new signings and another one to come. So all these prophets of doom may have to eat their words

“Saddled with expensive players” But that doesn’t explain bringing Vaughan, Donaldson in on decent money along with others at the start of the season. I think we were all quite optimistic with pre season captures and it felt like the board had backed the manager, this window’s activity appears to totally fly in the face of that and looks like a cost cutting exercise. So for me the OP is right to question what is really going on

edit plus we’ve had the McBurnie monies

I’ll be the first to give the new lads a fair crack and I didn’t expect the world in the window, what I did expect was that we would replace like for like in terms of wages, you know to show some intent given we are in the playoffs

How many clubs would look to reduce their wage bill in January window when ‘supposedly’ pushing for promotion, just doesn’t happen

edit. and reduce the size of the squad, any team pushing looks to increase numbers to cover for injuries not cut back

We had high wage earners before Rupp sanctioned Vaughan and Donaldson’s wages which would be considerable, So something has definitely changed. Whether reality has kicked in and they know 20k ST’s is a pipe dream or they’ve realised it’s not going to get better with Bowyer or Rupp has accepted he’s going to lose much more than he was prepared for. As bad as it is on the pitch, incredibly we are still in a playoff spot. It absolutely looks like we have thrown the towel in and accepted it ain’t gonna happen. Mid table beckons. The club needs to wake up and speak positive because less than 10k ST’s is on the cards.

    It is obvious.

Mr Rupp wants to reduce the amount of money he has to spend. We are clearly looking at a big reduction in season ticket income next season. Hence the desire to get big wage earners out the club.

Thats the worrying thing here Den, its a lack of a clear thinking vision for the go forward of this club. Conflicting stories in the media, Rupp says there was money available, the transfer window suggests very much otherwise.
The club can collect its thoughts somewhat in the summer when the likes of Reeves, Akpan, Robinson and Riley will be off the wage bill. Loans will go back and the club will almost be back to square one in terms of having to build again. The wage budget will undoubtedly be down but that will be offset by big earners leaving.
The big problem though is above Bowyer or whoever is unfortunate enough to be in charge of this rudderless ship.

People will be asking if we have a sell on from the sell on of the sell on of Oli McBurnie in 8 years time.

Hold on though, Doyle wanted out and Vaughan wanted out. So the clubs hand was forced to find replacements. It they had been banging the goals in and happy chappies they would still be here.

What sort of replacements did you expect, the club is not gonna pay £500k on a striker clubs most clubs will not let first team strikers go not to mention many players point blank refusing league two (Grigg)

we still have a good squad and we have moved on two bad eggs.

I am questioning the managers football more than the squad this season, I think these players aren’t necessarily downgrades in a Bowyer style team, and I like to give players a chance before judging.

Cant believe anyone still.defends rupp. Hes the owner and is accountable.

No normal club weakens there squad to the extent we have during a january window when claiming funds would be available to manager.

Yes minimum funds available if we get rid of our only assets in the window.

What really is going on is we have an owner who doesn't care about the club or investing in it.

You would think at least he would try and fund us back into league 1 where they (obviously including other German who I refuse to type his name) got us relegated

But no he isn't interested in funding anything

Says it all when we've an owner who thinks it's okay to not bother with a 5 figure maintenance figure for the pitch......after he took the 2m mcburnie money back could he not have left money for the pitch...clearly not
