“Saddled with expensive players” But that doesn’t explain bringing Vaughan, Donaldson in on decent money along with others at the start of the season. I think we were all quite optimistic with pre season captures and it felt like the board had backed the manager, this window’s activity appears to totally fly in the face of that and looks like a cost cutting exercise. So for me the OP is right to question what is really going on

edit plus we’ve had the McBurnie monies

I think you maybe right. However, raiding the housekeeping money in a piecemeal fashion is farcical. He will be here for the next 10 years trying to do that. Plus the club will go under. It looks like he has pocketed the McBurnie money.

I don't think it was a very good window at all, well not in a conventional sense. May seem strange but I think we will play better. I just think some of the hoof balls will stick and get us further up the pitch.

People will be asking if we have a sell on from the sell on of the sell on of Oli McBurnie in 8 years time.

We could of colllected our thoughts with a bigger push for promotion.

So we have given up on this season while in 7th? We collect our thoughts with cheaper players with less ability.. that makes no sense to me.

Buy cheap, buy twice.. City are certainly doing that.

We could, but the club is still transition. Doesn't mean to say they don't want to go up but it doesn't feel like a priority right now and January confirms that. All January our policy has been reactive rather than proactive, it says to me there is no real plan at the top bar seeing the season out and taking stock. All rather disappointing but predictable really.

I agree with most of what you have said Biker - I think we need to just take a step back and realise Doyle was NOT a positive influence in the dressing room and really didnt want to be here for a whole range of reason and views on Vaughan are a bit like marmite. On paper the incomings dont really raise the pulse but I hate this slagging off of players before we have seen them play for us (they might not be the most gifted but if they give 100% isnt that what us fans always say is all we ask for?)
The problem is the negativity is already deep rooted with Bowyer, if we lose at Oldham sadly I cant see anything other than another outpouring of protest against him. He is a very strange character, at times he comes across a very decent man but then comes out with complete drivel that the fans can see through straight away - if he is playing games then he needs to realise its not working. And now the commitment and leadership of Rupp and Rhodes will come under even greater scrutiny, their absolute silence has been deafening so people can and will only judge on what they see as a very underwhelming January.
I just hope we continue to show the commitment from Tuesday and hopefully add an end result today - or I fear its going to be a really difficult environment for the new players to come into next week.

Hold on though, Doyle wanted out and Vaughan wanted out. So the clubs hand was forced to find replacements. It they had been banging the goals in and happy chappies they would still be here.

What sort of replacements did you expect, the club is not gonna pay £500k on a striker clubs most clubs will not let first team strikers go not to mention many players point blank refusing league two (Grigg)

we still have a good squad and we have moved on two bad eggs.

I am questioning the managers football more than the squad this season, I think these players aren’t necessarily downgrades in a Bowyer style team, and I like to give players a chance before judging.

Rhodes needs to go.. he sold this club to them two and now getting paid to play their games.

So Rhodes is taking us back to 2010 .. his methods are just dated..Thought he was leaving?

I am struggling to understand what Rupp has actually spent including the purchase of the club. The deficit accumulated by the mad man was paid off by the McBurnie money. It would be great if we had transparency of Rahic spending spree on the club credit card. I gave Rupp the benefit of the doubt in his apparent genuine desire to put things right, but if he is taking money from the club I will change my view including debts that he had underwritten then to use money coming into the club ie McBurnie money to service the debt instead!!

He’s lost the majority of the money he’s put in, he has to accept that. Where his gamble lies is asking is the club more saleable in League One riding the crest of a promotion wave or deflated in League Two needing another squad rebuild?
As all gamblers know, you don’t chase your money and, having worked for a German company the last 15 years, their mind set isn’t to gamble.
I think he’s decided enough’s enough, especially after the wheels have come off so badly on the field in the last two months. Club is to be self financing and if a buyer comes along, all well and good.

I have no evidence of this, but I’d imagine a monthly invoice is sent from Rupp to City for ‘management time’.

Think you're right mate. Germans don't tend to gamble.

I think in the summer he was happy to take the Mcburnie money, cover any debt then support Bowyer with fresh hope but as time went on, football was more dire and now results poor he's lost faith and stripping the club, reducing the wage bill etc. Highlights he's lost believe in Bowyer and club.

A team wanting to go up doesn't act like it has.

Rhodes should of got rid of Bowyer. We have all been saying Bowyer needs to go!

For a man that isn't in to football he really did need to see attacking football to get him off his seat. Picture Rupp watching us on ifollow in Germany- damn he would of been bored!

Rhodes has messed up yet again! Over stayed his welcome now Rupp is taking control and it's going to be costly for us fans! Tough times ahead.

Yes it is. It's all a straight lift from the Rhodes play book.

In most years, I'd agree with what you say. In the past, the club has managed its affairs by balancing the books and doing whatever necessary to avoid a deficit (as Rhodes describes it) usually originally caused by running a higher than break-even playing budget. But this season there has been an enormous difference and that's the £2mill+ sell-on from the McBurnie which we are receiving. Without that we might well have struggled and then had to fall back onto the Rhodes play book. But we are receiving it along with an added bonus if the Blades stay up and it's way in excess of the extra amount put into the playing budget above its break-even level. That'swhy I conclude there's more to it than Rhodes doing the usual.

I can understand making up the deficit, and I’m sure somebody must have calculated that Vs the risk of investing in promotion making us a more attractive, valuable club.

If the latter didn’t pay off then we would be in a much worse position than we are now, so in a way we have to be a little bit content knowing that the clubs stability was put as a priority.

    Spot on.

Mr Rupp isn't a football man. He was stupid enough to fall for a load of guff about how he could make money from football. Any scant research into English football would have disabused him of this.

At the start of the season Mr Rupp said he would stand by the club, as he felt he owed the supporters. That has lasted six months imo.

They reckon the McBurnie money covered last years deficit. Probably worth guessing that the McBurnie money isn't all paid in one go as well.

That's my point. As you know, I've said elsewhere that I always believed he originally overpaid for the club even when in Div 1. If he wants to sell it as a price which somebody else will pay, he will have to crystallise his loss (which will hurt him personally whether he's German or not) or he will simply let the club tickover and be self sustaining until somebody else offers to buy it.
