When interviewed after last night's cup result, Hopkin was asked about our league position. He said he was looking to add 3 or possibly 4 to his squad. There was no comment on positions or what was happening to the current loanees or short term fixes. He has also said only recently that he needs more width to provide better service for Doyle in particular. There are some clues there on his own thinking.

The idea that some have of changing half the team doesn't seem to accord with Hopkin's own views. And I suspect his view may well prevail!

That line alone is a WINNER from me ;)

The last two games have shown we're not really goal shy - But if we can stop shipping 'em in at the same rate, we have a fair chance of finishing in a 'safe' position in May. :)

What we need and what we can afford might be two totally different things. This squad is fairly large, with players who are too similar. However unless we can move players on, then we are stuck.
Wright and Reeves are on Contracts until June 2020 also Isherwood and Gibson. On loan we have Patrick and McCartan, who are unlikely to return. I also think Doyle is on a Contract to 2020. None of those player are going to be that easy to shift, yet it isn’t working for us and them.
I would let Seedorf, Henry and J O’Brien go, there can be better for us, out there.
However unless someone else can see merit in the others who have shorter contracts, and some of them leave, then we cannot keep bringing new players in.

Fully agree Rod. As you, I and others have said before .......... The January policy will be dependant on how many we can 'ship out'. That said ........ The shipping out itself is an obstacle. Realistically, I can only see five out, and perhaps four in, at most. Providing those 'four' are quality, in key positions ..... we should be OK. We wait.

A lot of those players who are not ‘fitting in’, are not likely to get good 18 month Contracts at other clubs. Why would you go to another club and leave yourself worse off financially? Sadly I can see some sitting out their Contracts.

Given Hopkins comments on team spirit finally building, I don’t think he’ll make many changes in Jan. The 3 or 4 will be a centre back, winger, target man and maybe a left back.

This is it for me in terms of bringing players in. A commanding centre back would be nice to partner O'Connor or NKP. A focal point up front also seems key to how Hopkin wants to play. A winger who can move the ball up the field would also be good, suspect that would be a direct replacement for the anonymous Seedorf.

Caddis, who I think has been a strong addition, is contracted until the end of the season. Henry has put in good performances. He was abysmal went he came on last night but we need to appreciate that he is still probably getting up to speed.

I think Hopkin will be keen to trim the squad down but that's easier said than done - as mentioned Seedorf would be an obvious departure. I still have concerns over whether Jack Payne will be here beyond January as well.

Maybe it's just me but I just don't get Henry. I wasn't there last night so can't comment on that. But I thought he was rubbish in his first match, yet some raved about the influence he had on the game. I thought he was slow and not especially strong in the tackle or useful on the ball. Maybe it's just me. I thought JOB a far more influential player

if we're being realistic - i think we need a centre back, a central midfielder, a winger and a striker.

if we push the boat out a bit, another centre back, and maybe a left back.

I think a solid centre back and a centre forward would change this team.
Players are working together now and showing that there is a bit of quality there, we are working together finally.
Yes it would be great to go out and find a fast winger and a solid midfielder but I think we can work with what we have if we can find the right players for defence and attack.

If we can get him fit and keep him fit, Scannel is a very good winger for this division. Maybe our new No2 can work wonders

That's one of the reasons I'm saying a centreback and a centre forward are what we need. We already have players who can fill the other roles and it's not like we have a Man City budget.

I agree with most views on where we need to strengthen but I'm also wary of who might leave, especially the quality we have on loan.

Having heard what Hopkin has said earlier in the season re the quality of the squad and the fact there will be some wheeling and dealing to be done, I'd hope to see 4/5 quality additions made in January. Yes we'll probably have to pay over the odds to get them, given the selling clubs know our plight and the players do too, therefore might command slightly heftier wages, but needs must.

I think definitely 1 but perhaps 2 decent centre halves, a left full back, a winger and a big horrible centre forward are needed.

When you look at what we have to deal with though I'd be happy to try and offload any of the following to help fund these recruits:

    Chicksen
    McGowan - maybe
    Isherwood
    Wright
    Devine
    Gibson - maybe
    Seedorf
    Reeves
    Jones
    McCarten
    Patrick
    Bruenker

Thats a lot of dross were carrying and if we can manage to bin off or by some miracle, sell some of this group, then we would save a huge amount in wages which could be better spent elsewhere in the team.

A good list of the 'fat' we need to trim off (or at least improve upon) - thankfully, Seedorf isn't our player or our problem and he can go back to Wolves. Phew!

The rest, completely agree with, and would happily add more.

    Nobody under contract is indispensable.

He was horrendous last night. Slipped over several times and lost the ball in midfield and let them break countless times. Missed a pen, not that you can really hold that against him, but he looked last night like a player whose legs have gone.

Not convinced over any of our defenders at the moment to be honest. O'Connor is captain and we seemingly missed him at Luton, so he must offer something, but he's still not as a strong as Kilgallon for me. Being realistic, I think he will stay in the side as we can't replace too many in one window.

Chicksen and NKP just aren't good enough and the sooner they move on the better. Caddis puts in a solid shift and I agree he's the best of our freebie recruits. He isn't the fastest though and we ideally need a CB with a bit of pace to cover for him at times.

Now we have started to create and score goals again a new LB and CB have to be the priorities. Then a target man option (as we don't know if Miller's recent upturn in form is just a flash in the pan), then a winger with some pace to give us a new option and then, if we can (though I doubt it) another CB. Five players might be asking too much. I'd give Caddis a deal until the end of the season on the proviso we inject some new pace in at CB.

I think Miller has looked more likely than Doyle all season. Now he is putting the chances away he was missing. He seems to crop up in the right positions
