Thought Forest Green were a very solid side who we couldn’t break down. A very good defence and the interchange of passing leading up to the goal was very good.

Not stopping the cross and OD bizarrely not claiming despite it being well within catching distance didn’t help our cause.

It is perfectly obvious to everyone that all teams coming to VP this season are going to be set up defensively, will time waste from 1st minute to take sting out of the game and will use whatever is necessary to frustrate the team and the supporters who, they hope, will then get on the back of the team. To counteract this we should be straight into them from the kick off, get on the front foot and, hopefully, score an early goal. That would then ensure that they would have to completely change their tactics and give us greater room in which to play. To keep backing off them as we did in this game just gives them more and more confidence.

How odd that their CEO refused to wear a tie, must be an odd ball. I’ve been to Black tie events, golf courses etc. With dress codes, I’d not want to wear that particular clothing normally but respect the rules of the place and either wear what I have to or don’t go simple. Some people are just attention seekers though, I imagine he knew the dress code in advance as most in the football league will.

I’m sure our board members who attend their ground in April will have the respect to not eat meat on the premises as is their right to tell us not to, when in Rome do as Romans do.

For their ceo's actions on Saturday I'd be ringing up whoever organises that giant pie they make in Denby Dale and have it shipped to the ground for our trip there.

Although I am a traditionalist to a certain degree I do think that 'ties' should have been dumped years ago at all levels...

Spot on Steve, even some FGR fans have criticised him on their forum and the Gloucestershire Live publication who we explained matters to yesterday.
Some like Stafford Bantam may think these things are outdated but I can assure you in the 10 years of being a Director and Ambassador and now Associate Director I have never been in another Boardroom where anything less than Jacket (preferably suite), shirt and tie have been accepted. Clearly FGR are an exception and one of their Directors has posted "Wait until we give Bradford our dress requirements". The only slight exception was at Chelsea where we were told in advance that we could not wear any Club colours in the room we were in. Fair enough we complied. In someone else's house you do comply.
In our Boardroom we have rules which are communicated to visitors but we also keep spare ties in case someone forgets. On Saturday two came from FGR without ties, one wore the one he was given, the CEO took his but on entering the Boardroom decided to leave, together with tie as far as I know, then decided to say he had been denied entry.
In respect of ladies in the room similar rules of smart dress apply and are complied with. There was one incident when the wife of a Rochdale Director appeared in smart Chinos and was reprimanded by Mark Lawn but it turned out she had undergone hip surgery and that was all she had to fit, she was allowed to stay but every game subsequent smart dress from her.
We all have different standards, even Tesco have introduced a dress code for their stores of no vest. It's all about standards, we try to apply good ones, everyone knows where they stand and welcome it, possibly why we have consistently won Boardroom of the Year so many times in the last 10 years.
Matter closed for me, looking forward to whatever fancy dress FGR come up with for Good Friday.

Thank you for the detailed response. I perhaps should have mentioned that the primary reason I don't wear a tie, is on medical grounds. Some of the things I have experienced, as a result of not wearing a tie, are nothing short of unbelievable and have certainly helped shape my views on various forms of discrimination.

Leading on from my response to @wetherbywhaler@wetherbywhaler above, my answer would be, whilst it is certainly not for me, I wouldn't have a problem with someone dressing the way I think you are suggesting. However, I do not believe there should be separate male and female dress codes, just one dress code for everybody.

Why should it just be 1 dress code for both sexes. There is a dress code set out by the club for visiting parties 1 for gentlemen and another for ladies . If you went to a wedding would you go if they said your wife (if married) had to wear top hat and tails because that was the dress code for both .
Seeing as it's not the 1st time our clubs boardroom has been voted the best I'd suggest the forest Green ceo was just being awkward for the sake of it just to cause a scene or he just fancied sitting with their fans but needed an excuse.

Defensively solid, but I didn't really note their passing play.

I thought they both Mills' were good, one in defence, one in midfield, but the only other player I noticed was the lad that kept diving.

In A block of the Midland Road we saw rather too much of their left back Kitching, who kept fouling Donaldson but it went unpunished until Donaldson was penalised for a non foul on Kitching. He was noticeable.

Ah yes, forgot, he got a ton of boos from our side (also Midland Road).

Donaldson actually looked pissed off at him from the very first minute, I don't quite know why though?

so what your basically saying is the FGR director should follow the club’s dress code policy, one he doesn’t agree with, but you and your wife shouldn’t follow a hypothetical wedding dress code policy that you don’t agree with? therefore, you wouldn’t attend an occasion with such a policy if you were requested to.

that’s a bit hypocritical of you don’t you think?

I didn’t particularly note their passing play either, until the run up to the goal where they kept it well for a short while before sticking it past O’Donnell.

    Oldham didn't, although the scoreline was 3 - 0.
I didnt see the FG game but from reading many posters thoughts they shut up shop and time wasted at every opertunity, at least Oldham came and had a go.
I do agree that the vast amount of teams in this league will park the bus, someone mentioned the FG players wondering out onto the pitch and taking pictures of the stadium, it was a big occasion for these guys who put everything into getting a clean sheet which no doubt they would have been happy with but then went on to get the winner.

Oldham were naive beyond belief bronco. Their manager is a novice in English football and thought his poor side could come to VP and play us off the park, when in fact it played into our hands.

100% the majority of teams will come here and do what forest green did. Maybe not as explicitly but they'll certainly come here looking to defend deep and setup for a point.

I like to take a balanced view of things to try not to be biased. But ive not seen the crowd as incensed as they were against FGR in a long time. Quite rightly so as well it was a disgraceful display of sportsmanship from their team not helped by an ineffectual lineswoman and referee. I left the game fuming and you could feel the anger in the air on midland rd.

Quite simply, they are a set of cheating b*stards and id rather stay in l2 than win like that.

As I say after reading many posts you are not by yourself with regards FG taking gamesmanship to another level, so frustrating but the referee must have been aware and realised FGs time wasting then added 11 extra minutes, Mills getting the winner in the 98 minute, which in itself adds insult to injury...time :(.
