The two incidents are very different though. The stamp deserved a red but the shove afterwards is something you see all the time.

We'll agree to disagree, we've definitely got differing opinions on this one.

Both incidents have their merits in todays game of footie.

Yet what has happened to true gentlemanly conduct, over the years ? :)

Gone are the days whereby so long as it didn't involve a stretcher .... both parties shook hands and had a pint after in the Club house after the match.
Little cheating ...... And no feigning injury, just 22 'honest blokes' wanting to win.

The lessons I learnt was 'get out of the way quicker !!!' ;)

    You’re wrong.

Whilst it is true the ref has his back to the incident, the lino is looking straight at it and does nothing. It isn’t until the ref is alerted to it that the linesman runs on to the pitch.

Both this incident and the ‘goal’ were not the fault of the referee but his linesmen have badly let him down.

But he didn’t run back to the half-way line. A couple of stills shows exactly what was happening. In fact, in the 2nd still, the ref even sees some of what is going on, as he looks over his shoulder and sees NKP being pushed back to the ground.

TBF, Honeyman may not have been holding onto Scannell (like in Tuesday’s incident), but he was holding on to the ball having fallen on to it. No excuse for Scannell pushing him, but to say one is defensible and the other not, is wrong.

The linesman sees it all. The referee has been badly let down by his assistants today. They Completely bottled it.

    Agree.
I watched this prolonged incident and it seemed the linesman was very delayed to react.
The noise from the crowd and goalkeeper seemed to draw attention to it.

It was Sunderland's free kick though wasn't it? Correct me if I'm wrong like as I'm not 100% but I think the photo someone posted on here of the live commentry read that it was our Freekick. If it was, why couldn't he grab hold of the ball?

Anyway, got my point accross as to why they're both completely different cases of violent conduct.

Again, both red cards though - I'm not arguing against that, just portraying a different side to the story/argument that if Scannells' was a red card so should Flanagan's.

Watch it again. The linesman only looks across after the stamp when the player shoves NKP.

Look at the stills. The first one, just as the stamp is being made, the lino is looking right along the line. I can get you the stills right before if you like, but it doesn’t get any clearer.

I get that you want to save face (having previously claimed he had run back to the half-way line), but you are wrong. Just admit it for once

Sorry if I missed it, but they can't take retrospective action as he got booked, is that still the case?

I believe the card is irrelevant. The clause is if the officials saw the incident. Now the card suggests they did but did they see all of the incident? For example it may be that the AR saw a push at the end but not a stamp a few moments earlier.
The key would be what they included in their report. If no stamp is mentioned but video evidence shows it clearly happened then perhaps it could be deemed that the officials did not see the incident.
That said, there is no chance that retroactive action will be taken. Despite a catalogue of errors, the powers that be look after their officials.

No, the card stops any further action.
