Valley Parade - Stikers Graaaaveyard?

Just had a quick look back to 2011, and out of those seasons there have been three where we haven’t had someone in the top 10 scorers in our league. In two of those seasons we sold that player part way through the season, so if they had played the whole season would have been in the top 10.

That shows that our strikers are doing better than average for the league we are in. They maybe not the best in the league but no where near the worst.

 

Remember Tony Adcock prolific until he came here

 

I think it more to do with we’ve always been a club with little money so rarely have we had a good squad of players most of our better teams have been built on defence and work rate

 

Each player has his own basic 'domain' ...... Even on a tiny 5 a-side pitch, for once (ladies) size should not have an effect on your strategy or ability.
It would be interesting to know if the FA have an absolute minimum pitch size for League qualification (I'm sure they do )

Have you got any stats to back up your claim?

Luton have one of the narrowest pitches in our league but still managed to have two players last year on 19 and 21, but maybe they scored them all away from home.

 

Don't worry we go to Blackpool on Saturday who have a much wider pitch, by this logic our strikers will have a field day. Look forward to the goal fest.

 

The 18 yard box is still the same size home or away. Good strikers tend to stick within that distance. And like you say the distance is yards difference, I don't think such a small distance will make a lot of difference.

An old pal of mine has played on the Wembley pitch. A lot is spoken of and written about it's size. As he played on it during the Spring (An Amateur final), He explained it wasn't the size of the pitch, but the Stadium, heat and crowd that consumed you.
Perhaps THAT is the reason why players from say Accrington suffer ? New players are constantly talking about OUR stadium and crowd in initial interviews ...... So that's 2/3 of the above to consider.

So has anyone got any comparisons for number of goals on our narrow, but slightly longer than some, compared to wider pitches. And then does length matter, or is it total square metres?
