I remember reading a article somewhere where someone had collected stats of strikers at clubs and a link with pitch sizes, mainly WIDTH

Strikers just dont seem to have any joy at valley parade!
I mean even the season we got to wembley we hardly scored majy goals! 1-0 wins all over the place.......

Now since midland road got redeveloped our pitch was made even smaller, with the width even less, and this was after already being one of the least wide pitches in all of the football league

    Im
Wondering if this is why strikers do great elswhwere but come to valley parade and get no joy!
Its too tight, there is no space

Just look at last weekend aswell,
Wyke, Lund, Omari Patrick all scored

Doyle was on fire last season, cant do anything this season, is it a jinx or is it our tiny pitch which is one of the if not smallest and least wide pitches in the football league? I need to find this article but the stats were crazy! Nearly all teams with pitches that arnt very wide were lowest scroing

When was the last time we had a free scoring striker? Since that new stand went up on midland road?
Nahki Wells is the ONLY striker i can think of and his style was running in behind defenders and onto through balls which didnt really require width

Might aound crazy but when you see the stats of teams with not very wide pitches and the goals scored over several seasons to stats of teams with wider pitches you will be amazed, gonna try find it.

Yeah and both of those players played a certain style which wasnt feeding on crosses and was mainly running onto balls, no?

It would interesting to compare how the average amount of goals scored over the years at VP compares with other clubs

Peter Thorne got 31 in 77? Decent record that.

Didn’t windass get almost 30 one year but was beating to top scorer by that lad from Hull?

    Lund and Patrick aren't strikers.

Beagrie, Lawrence, Summerbee, Reid, Marshall etc all managed to cope ok with the width.

The pitch was a lot wider then in 1977, after the midland road new stand, our pitch was made less wide, thats what im writing about.

Marshall was a winger no? And didnt score many, and with him in the sqaud we managed to win most at only 1-0 no?

My post is about strikers not wingers..

Surely it would hamper both teams then and not just our strikers.

Plus last time I looked we only played half our games at VP

I don't think it's a graveyard, I just think it's an area of the pitch we've neglected for too long.

Blake, mills, Thorne all played before the pitch was made smaller... i cant remember which stand it was but the pitch was still wider in our first season in premiership

Hanson, was he really a free scoring striker? He did ok but i wouldnt say he was free scroing, what percentage of his goals were at home?
Just asking cos for the last 10
Seasons i cannot remember us ever scoring loads at home.

The pitch's width has been narrowed on several times over the years.
A notable one been Peter Taylor having it narrowed as a tactic to help us defend easier, it was lost on him that this also applies to the opposition

What has width got to do with strikers then?

And it was made narrower again (by nearly a metre) on the MR side when the drainage was installed during the summer and the pitch relaid.
