Don't worry we go to Blackpool on Saturday who have a much wider pitch, by this logic our strikers will have a field day. Look forward to the goal fest.

Luton have one of the narrowest pitches in our league but still managed to have two players last year on 19 and 21, but maybe they scored them all away from home. How, Jay, RonnieBrown and 1 other person like this. -

@How said Thorne scored 33 in 77 you then mentioned the date 1977 however he meant Thorne scored 33 goals in 77 games!! So this is where the confusion came from..
Peter Thorne was signed by Stuart McCall when he first came back as manager.

Does that clear it up for you? -
Peter Thorne got 31 in 77? Decent record that.
Didn’t windass get almost 30 one year but was beating to top scorer by that lad from Hull?Plastic Bantam and Jay like this. -

Surely it would hamper both teams then and not just our strikers.
Plus last time I looked we only played half our games at VPloz and RonnieBrown like this. -
So has anyone got any comparisons for number of goals on our narrow, but slightly longer than some, compared to wider pitches. And then does length matter, or is it total square metres?

It’s rubbish. Good strikers would score goals wherever, whenever. We just haven’t had many -

70yds = 63.98m, so at least the two websites are consistent; thus probably indeed this year's measurements. For length, 113yds = 103.2m.
As best I can tell from Frost's book -- he seems to have misplaced the decimal point -- the original pitch size was 91.4 x 64m (the book has 9.14 x 6.4!) , or 100 x 70yds; the pitch was enlarged for the 1908 season, but no numbers are given. After that it shifted position but no mention is made of changes in size until the close season of 1978, when 2.74m (=3 yds) was added to the length. No mention is made of the pitch size of the rebuilt VP.
Both Tony Williams' Football Directory for 1987 and Rothmans for 1988/9 give 110 x 76yds for the pitch size. By 2001/2 that width had shrunk; pitch now 110 x 73yds.
Thus it stayed for a while, but the 2009/10 Rothmans has a further shrinkage in width along with an increase in length: pitch now 113 x 70yds. This is also the size in the latest Rothmans I have, for 2016/7. In metres this makes 103.5 x 64m. And we are back at the numbers given by the two websites referenced above.
RCB
(I know Rothmans has a different name nowadays, but it will always be Rothmans to me!)
