Well Labour have been handed another open goal. Nicola Sturgeon's husband has just been arrested in Scotland in connection with an investigation into Scottish National Party finances.

No wonder Nicola has gone from there is plenty of gas in the tank to I quit in a matter of weeks.

Alex Salmond will also be rubbing his hands together on the back of this news in order to push Alba forward.

Don't get too excited, disenchanted SNP voters won't vote labour as with the rest of the UK neither will disenchanted Tories.....most will just abstain with the all round apathy of all the parties

I find it all wonderfully ironic all the stick Sturgeon has given Boris and now this in her own family. Funny as hell.

What I don't get though, is the big blue police tent in her garden.

Presume she saw this coming, hence the resignation

Another open goal Scott Benton taking money from gambling firms to ask questions in parliament and stop legislation against gambling firms designed to aid addiction. Even after Paterson resigned the twisted MPs thought this acceptable behaviour

Benton, he comes across as pretty dim.

Wasn't he the one who stood up saying his constituents couldn't get GP appointments etc without a hint of shame that his party had been in power for 13 years.

yep as a Blackpool constituent you should be s tad embarrassed voting in this deviant. He has faced dodgy questions before about freebies from gambling firms yet still he falls for it. Thick and greedy

The Sturgeon thing is a prime example showing that people who go on about believing in high ethics and morals in politics believe in no such thing. They just want to bash the Torys.

Wrongdoing by anyone else - especially a party on the traditional left - is just glossed over. Its pretty funny.

The absolute shitshow from the parties in power in Scotland and England at the moment would lead me as far to say even Jeremy Corbyn would have had a chance at the next election. Starmer just appears to be in the job at the right time whilst all around him falls to pieces.

On a day dominated by the arrest of the Nicola Sturgeon's husband, Scott Benton has found a way to drag the limelight of sleeze back to the Tory party.

Benton is such a gobby git on Twitter, it’s lovely to see him knocked down a peg or two, although I suspect he’s just stupid enough to get caught. One of Bradford’s finest, Philip Davies likes to accept freebies from the gambling industry as well. Nothing to see there, though.

You cannot be serious. The Mail, Express, Telegraph, Sun etc are all over any misdemeanour on the left. Corbyn would probably still be leading the Labour Party (which, thankfully, he isn't) if it weren't for the concerted campaign about antisemitism from the various media.

What's that got to do with the point I made? They were also all over "Partygate" in the main, they're all over anything that will generate clicks.

The commentators - and even people on here - who are all over sleeze when it's a Tory issue couldn't give a toss if it's any other party. How big would the thread be on here if there was a police cordon and the forensic tent in Boris's garden but because it's Sturgeon it doesn't even get a thread of it's own!

It's Tory weighted at the moment because they are in power. The Scott Benton thing is because he can get close to ministers. You can't get a Labour MP to do that because they aren't in the right circles so thats why you see more stories weighted this way. However if they weren't willing to take cash for such obvious breaking of parlimentary rules there would be no story.

I agree. The Benton thing is bad.

I was talking about the muted response to Stugeon though from the people who nearly had heart attacks and typed essay after essay because Johnson had some cake.

If Sturgeon was still in place, and that's a whole other subject as the timing of resigning seems way way way way way to much of a coincidence to the latest developments, this story would be dynamite. It seems to much of a coincidence that out of nothing Krankie resigns then a week later her husband is arrested, and the my husband loaned the SNP £100k but as his wife I know nothing about him putting his own £100k into the party.

I think this is part of damage control but the new leader is a joke and they would probably be better with a tarnished Krankie in charge than Humsa anyhow.

I misunderstood your post. I didn't realise you were referring to the SNP because you said the press ignore misdemeanours by ' the traditional left'. I don't equate the SNP with the traditional left'.

That's strange, wanting to wreck the Union is most definitely on the wishlist of the left ....

Is it? Which left leaning party is in favour of Scottish independence then?

Yes, the clue is in the name. But they're not typical of 'the left'. As far as I'm aware they're the only party that supports Scottish independence.
