We certainly missed someone like Spearing in our midfield last season that's for sure and yes, I agree, he could be next "Gary Jones" type captain for the team. What I can say is that I was overseas last year and missed the Liverpool pre-season game, but managed to see it on LTV. Spearing was one of the Liverpool summarisers and spoke at length both before, during and after the game from the pitch. There was no doubt that he was totally enthused by the reception that his best mate SD received and the atmosphere generated by the Kop and within the ground. I believe he would come to VP to honest and would be the right kind of asset we need to guide us through and upwards out of this division next season.

To be fair, Rhodes and Lawn gave Parky a decent budget in the time he was here, pretty much every penny went to first team strengthening. This idea of retaining a squad has limitations, if you do build a successful side the chance is your best players get picked off. Ideally a mix of young hungry players with a spine of experience players.

That 35 year old spent all his time in the lower divisions and with one club I believe. I'm not saying Spearing wouldn't do a job, but with Donaldson and Vaughan probably taking a significant chunk of the budget, surely we need to reset and put the infrastructure in place that we haven't had for a long, long time

I was thinking along the lines of Luton. There's going to be a lot of players available and a lot of clubs on the breadline. There'll always be a chance we could lose players but that's always been the case. Teams with long term plans are more likely to be successful in my opinion.

You're right there. Think it was Nixon yesterday saying at least one other Championship club and as many as 15/16 others in Admi or worse in next few weeks.

What I think is vital is avoiding the injury list we have had the last couple of years particularly last year because with a much smaller squad we would be playing the kids.
We need to drastically improve in the injury prevention department

Its very rare it happens like that, Luton just had the right coach who had an ambitious supporting board that used the momentum of success to propel themselves to the championship. To be fair they looked a very good side when they went up. It wasn't just small progress like we had under Parky, Jones took league 1 by storm. It can be done but needs everyone singing off the same hymn sheet. I think it's gonna take at least another season to get a balanced squad due to the players we're still stuck with. The three centre backs for a start don't complement each other in any combination.

Why are we waiting for the EFL to decide?

Seems like we are making excuses. If we have targets go and get them. Then worry!

The issue I think is the club doesn't want to take people off Furlough. If the season is starting in August then the players need to be back in training soon.

The people running the football league have been shown time and again they are not ift for purpose, no wonder the premier league runs its own ship. The football league structure is slowly falling to bits with a sizeable number of clubs looking increasingly at risk financially. I think the days of the 92 team structure as it is are coming to an end.

And that's the point. The club seem to be using it as an excuse not to get on with business.

Mansfield, Crewe, FGR and others that have signed players already are not braking and rules. So let's just crack on or we going to talk about Salary Cap like with do about Edin for the next 5 years.

Thanks Fordy, I'll take that as a compliment but smart people take in all angles and views before making decisions. As it happens it was Nixon being quoted that I read and I think he could be right.
Elsewhere in this thread the EFL cop it again, they are certainly not flavour of the month Wigan way. Apparently Parry told a Wigan fan some time ago that he would bet on them going in Admin, then it happened. The fan had secretly filmed him. People like this and many politicians of all parties always have to hog the limelight. Goodness knows why.

It's the owners that have no interest to invest off the field that's the problem. I have been saying it about Bradford for years. Wanting to people please but not wanting to protect the club with suitable investment. We train at a school for crying out loud. We're a professional outfit.. Blackpool had to train on the bloody beach! You protect yourself with assets and then has shown in the PL you then can generate money from that.

I read about how the Liverpool owners turned a 300m buy into a 2bn organisation in less than 6 years and it was just about off the field improvements. It's not rocket science but Bradford City and other football league clubs are extremely poorly run that's why I hammer the board and fully believe it's thanks Mr Rhodes, done a great job after Edin but it's time to go and we need a CEO with fresh idea's and not one that scared to communication and face fans.

The EFL have ask the PL for 250m and I doubt that's going to happen. The Championship clubs are wanting to follow what the PL a doing and I can see a PL and a PL 2 soon. Bradford City need to start moving up the league as I fear for Div 2 clubs. Div 2 is getting left behind and a lot of Non league clubs are over taking them.

I see Bolton have started their squad building by re-signing one player and offering contracts to others. The same Bolton who are under a transfer embargo and have only had a manager in place for two days.

Meanwhile we've spent 4 days this week moaning about the salary cap in the T&A and preparing fans for disappointment.

Stuart has said as much. He said he's chatting to players but not offering them anything yet. And O'Donnell hasn't been offered a new deal yet, he was only told that he might be further down the line.
