100% this is the player needed to signing. One of Darby's best mates and I sure he will be putting in a good word about the club plus he has spent most of his time up North.

Know he is doing his coaching badges, so if we can offer decent money and a coaching role plus make him Captain. That might do it but we should be pulling out the stops for him

 

He's coming up 32 in november, probably only risk a 12 month deal and he's had a few injuries but we do need a strong leader out there for sure..

 

Strikes me as the guy we should have had last year. Better late than never though.

On a scale of absolutely woeful to almost knowing what they're talking about, how crap is EFL_Hub in terms of accuracy? Genuine question?

 

I guess like most of the ITKs they actually know very little. I'd love us to sign someone of Spearings quality for the centre of the park but can't see it with the money being tight.

 

Yeah, I wasn't sure if they were notable for either hits or misses. They sound familiar, but that means nothing.

I have got no idea if it's likely, or if we're going to spend the money, or if he'll cost a lot in the current climate - but he's been touted for a long time, and he'd be a very strong signing in my opinion.

I don't care to put any hope or expectation into rumours anymore, and now it seems even MORE pointless.

It can't be just us that's considering signing as few players as possible.

Heard the Spearing rumour from a couple of people earlier this week, I suspect he will end up back at Bolton though.

He would be my number 1 target this summer for sure. Offer him the captaincy, and could be our next Gary Jones. Just the type of combative midfielder that we have seriously lacked for a while. I remember the number he did on Josh Cullen at Bolton to stop Cullen pulling the strings

 

The money will be just as tight for other clubs too.

The more I read about the proposed salary caps, the more it doesn't make sense. McCall pointing out today that because of no proposed salary caps in non league, ambitious non league clubs will be in a position to outbid league 2 clubs for players

 

Blackpool fans do not rate Spearing that highly but our fans who have seen him play twice do.

We certainly missed someone like Spearing in our midfield last season that's for sure and yes, I agree, he could be next "Gary Jones" type captain for the team. What I can say is that I was overseas last year and missed the Liverpool pre-season game, but managed to see it on LTV. Spearing was one of the Liverpool summarisers and spoke at length both before, during and after the game from the pitch. There was no doubt that he was totally enthused by the reception that his best mate SD received and the atmosphere generated by the Kop and within the ground. I believe he would come to VP to honest and would be the right kind of asset we need to guide us through and upwards out of this division next season.

 

We've enough "last hurrah" expensive players in the squad. What we need is a long term vision and not a revolving door policy. Lets look at a 4 or 5 year plan. A policy of building a squad, with the majority being retained the following season and being able to perform as a team at that level. Parky built a team without superstars, Stuart needs to do the same.
