With a surplus you might even get the pitch sorted or have claret & amber seats installed, hot water in toilets etc

I’d like to see us bring in quality coaching and scouting, doubt it’s would happen like. I’m not to bothered about improving the academy as unless you’re category one you just get any real talent stole anyway.

I'm glad we have so many current board and senior managers from VP on this forum , it would be uninformed speculation otherwise .

I share your concern that any money left over would be recycled into the club to improve the facilities or the club infrastructure. I'm still of the view that the EFL should have tweaked the current FFP salary cap and closed the loopholes which allow some owners to subsidise their clubs. That could have worked well and introduced some level of sustainability into the lower leagues. As it is, a different regime as is currently proposed will no doubt introduce upheavel and confusion into the arrangements at least in the short term.

I've not heard anything on how the review which the EFL instigated some months ago following the Bury fiasco is getting on. That will also have to be factored into the changes at some point as well.

Who would've thunk one piddly disease would change a majestic luxury like hot water into a requirement?

    World's gone mad.

The oy place any surplus would go in to the owners pocket.
At the end of the day it's a private business, they may be able to bring in a salary cap but they won't be able to force owners not to keep any profit.
In our case Rupp is in it to make money. If he is able to make 2 mil profit every year without the expectation to invest in players he isn't going to do anything with the surplus.
There is no point investing in a better academy as the money it costs to get to cat 1 is stupidly prohibitive and as said earlier the only way to protect your developing players from being taken for peanuts is to be a cat 1 academy.

Our biggest sums in recent years have come from Delph and McBurnie. We also got a few quid for Wisdom over the years. Cleverley too.

    We can't ignore youth.

Well you can. Salford have just scrapped their under 18's and just going to under 23's.

Depends on what you want. If you want the players to move into your 1st team then you can and looks like we are going in that direction.

People go on about money brought in from Delph, McBarine etc but what have we done with it? we own nothing? gambled it away and gambled our future.

And how many were developed through our academy? I didn’t say ignore youth, just don’t throw money at something which is unlikely to benefit the club.

The McBurnie money has probably kept us afloat during the pandemic - or at least meant Rupp doesn't have to loan the club money again.

Well I have just given you examples of where it did benefit the club? We haven't bought and sold a player anywhere near those sums for a long time bar Wells.

Well Rhodes said the money was going to Rupp...Nothing since.

We don't know our financial state currently. Point is selling these players you said hasn't got us anywhere...We are a div 2 team and no assets mate.

And where have I said we haven’t benefited from youth or should ignore it? As I say keep it how it is and don’t waste good money after bad on it, especially as the examples you have happened before the FFFP regulations so we’d get nowhere near as much now.

It would have asked serious questions abouts Rupps committment if McBurnie had left Swansea for nothing. He's definitely hit the jackpot with biggest windfall we've ever had.
