Didn’t they pay nearly £1m for Ivan Toney?

Didn’t we secure Eoin Doyle for £300k, with his wages being circa £5k per week? There’s not a lot of difference there, other than Toney had/has future sell-on potential.

Apparently they paid around £650,000 (https://www.peterboroughtoday.co.uk/sport/football/posh/ivan-is-ready-to-repay-manager-s-faith-as-reports-suggest-peterborough-united-paid-a-650-000-fee-for-his-services-1-8596253), but to be fair, Toney was 22. Doyle was 30.

While Toney is the better signing, the fee paid kind of tells its own story, and it's not one of frugal business on Peterborough's part!

Since when has the game of football centred around one player stoping a team from getting relegated? If Lewis O’Brien became free, you’d turn your nose up at him because “he was not able to prevent Bradford City avoid relegation”?

I think that is the misconception with many posters on here (and formally C&B) over the years. Unfortunately, in Citys case that trend seems to be correct, looking back at some of the shite we've signed ! ;)
Also - Some think 100+ appearances 'higher up' must be good, because of their playing history ........ I give you De Veta, Paul Anderson and Matt Bates, for starters - Some may add Mark Yeates to those.
A case of you just never know what you've actually bought, until you get home. :)

There also has to be an element of risk employing an 'I can resurrect a career' mentality you would think.

Indeed, from both player and management aspects alike.
McLean, Ward, Petrescu, McGinlay and Hendrie (Lee) to name but a few.

I think he meant that Davies was better than league 2 while we had him in that division, while league 2 is Killa's level now. Ergo Davies is better than Killa and not on the same level. I think.

I think that was Jons point, NM. "At best". ;)

Killas brain is streets ahead, yet his physical stamina can now seen to be streets behind, for a rigorous and 'challenging' season. :) Perhaps like the Jon Stead situation ..... Mobility and pace now a small part of their game.

Based on what Ricc. OD was playing with a team that was shocking defensively and yes he made some odd howlers. Doyle has not played in this team and played in a team that was defensively stronger Doyle for me sticks on his line too much at crosses and intercepting through balls. Imho not much yo choose between them.

Is he "streets behind" because he's 35 or have you seen enough of him this season to make that opinion?

I only ask as Peter Thorne, Gary Jones and Dean Windass may disagree with the age theory.

I also suspect Whetherall, McCall, Beagrie and Jacobs who all played for the club at or beyond that age will be right behind them to back it up.

    No worries NM ;)

Even though he performed GREAT at BCAFC - I could see then, his body 'tiring'. :(
This may well have been a case of the extra work required by covering for others.
Although I've only taken in perhaps four games worth of high lights since, my opinion still stands. A great bloke to have around, but with limited physical ability to play for a promotion chasing club, and all the energy required to do that.:)

Your comment about what I thought was AD - ''I could see then, his body tiring''. He picked up a recurring injury nothing to do with age?

Take it from me BB ........ Injuries take longer and longer to recover from, as you get older, and yes - they often re-occur. :)

I appreciate the reply Ronnie but can't agree with any of it. 35 isn't necessarily the end of a footballer's life span anymore, especially one who never relied on pace and with the intelligence of Kilgallon.

I honestly don't know if he'd be a good signing or not but I do know I would rule him out simply because of his age.

Fair reply, NM ..... BUT - Could City risk any of their budget on a player who will perhaps only play 20 games, good as he is ? Is this not the reason City freed the likes of Jon Stead, and Andrew Davis, etc ?

I don't understand how you've arrived at the decision that he's likely to miss big chunks of the season Ronnie, that's my issue. Did he miss huge parts of last season due to injury or fitness issues? I honestly haven't checked so only know the stats that wiki put out.

I don't think Gary Jones missed many, if any at all did he?
