Size has got nothing to do with the ability to hold up the ball. One of the best players I played with at youth footy had a great leap on him and used to just stick his large behind out to protect the ball and he wasn't much taller than 5ft.

McAnthony already said on twitter he's available on a free, so we should wrap this one up if we offload a midfielder or 2. Also we should be looking to make Connolly a permanent transfer as well. Both IMO can play in the league above.

 

Not convinced about Connolly.

As for Cooke I see no rush. See where we're at the end of the season.

 

Cooke would be a great midfielder in this league or league 1 therefore he's a must, also no guarantee Reeves will sign a new deal, plus Palmer/Devitt are only on loan as well, so it would leave a big building project in the summer. Get him now and he would be settled and no need to gel. Plus I'd be hoping we are looking to get Akpan, Devine and Anderson off the books, that's another 3 midfielders gone. I'd hope if we can go up and Blackpool stay down, we might have a go for Spearing as he's out of contract and Bowyers golden boy. As for Connolly, he frightens others with his pace and plays for the shirt, again i'm sure we'd be able to get him for a minimal fee as AFC clearly don't want him.

 

Hope I'm wrong but it looks like we may have seen the best of Connolly and he can't play a full game. He was gone by 55/60 minutes on Saturday. He looks like just another middle of the road League 2 player that has pace but not much more. I know he played out of position on Saturday and looked to make a few decent runs but he offers very little else unfortunately. I wouldn't want to sign someone purely on the fact that he kisses the badge and gives it the big one in front of the kop.

Like his passion but I am not seeing a player in him now and to be honest he isn't using his pace correctly.

 

We saw the best of Connolly when he first arrived and we played him correctly in his RW position and gave him the ball to attack defenders. Since then, he's either come off the bench or played out of position at LW and ST. Morecambe away sticks out to me when he was no good on the left, he switched sides and straight away gets an assist. Saturday was similar, he spent all of five seconds in a RW position and managed an assist. He's one of a few players who aren't getting played correctly at the moment.

 

I get all of that but he can't only decide to play when he's played at RW. He can at least try be affective when played out of position ie against Macclesfield - played LW and was really poor, offered very little. Think Saturday was out of luck more than anything.

 

Mellor, Reeves, Cooke, Vaughan- all these players are not getting used correctly but you can see players, talent in these.

Not sure I see a good player in Connolly and I certainly wouldn't be looking to sign him at this moment.

 

Really? but everyone loves O'Donnell purely for that reason.

 

The whole team was ineffective against macclesfield, but I see your point. I wouldn't sign him permanently yet either but I'd rather keep him than lose him if that was a sticking point with Wimbledon.

 

Pretty certain they love him because he's a decent keeper.

I agree with part of what Fordy is saying. Reeves is being played in a correct position, Cooke is starting to play further forward now so as close to his position as possible and Vaughan has been dropping deeper as we haven't had the players to play alongside him well enough.

What short comings do you mean?

Personally I think we are in a decent position, should have been win on Saturday and it starts to get interesting. I'm starting to become more frustrated by not finishing games off, just hope we pick up wins rather than draws in our next 3 games.

 

Reading that it looks like a bit of a threat from MacAnthony, you keep him for the rest of the season or sign him or we won't do business in future.

 

Looks like an ultimatum and MacAnthony knows his football. From that it sounds like we’re leaving it till the last minute and he ain’t happy.

 

That just isn’t true.

 

He's proved this season and the majority of last to be the case.
