Gonna stick my neck on the line here and say I’d take Wright over Akpan - makes me feel to say it.

 

I would take Wright over Akpan, Devine and Palmer at this minute

 

Looks like Bolton could be going to the wall. The takeover bid collapsed on Saturday morning. Is it too early to suggest we should get into full vulture mode and go get some of their current crop for next to nothing? Have they got any players worth taking?

Its blindingly obvious that the biggest miss in this team is a dominant, aggressive midfielder who can get us winning the ball back 20 yards higher up the pitch. The whole team is too deep and doeant ha e much pace to get up the pitch. When we can get a hold of games in the middle, squeeze the team up and get service to Donaldson and Vaughan, we'll start to score the amount of goals we should be getting.

 

Christ I hope we can shift some shite in this last week to make way for some decent players in midfield! Pray some club is stupid enough to take Akpan

It could be better in the long run to offer Akpan Anderson and Scannell a settlement on their contracts. All been garbage since they joined and nobody else is daft enough to take them on.

 

I think the reason he gets so much stick, from me at least, is that whereas Wright, Anderson etc are just plain terrible, Akpan actually has all the attributes to be a really good, proper commanding midfielder. It’s just that he only applies them for about 20 minutes a season.

 

Akpan and co were brought in to improve us which they haven't. Therefore the longer we carry them thereby restricting any incomings surely means status quo and money down the drain. JR needs to bend Rupp's ear and have him settle with these players so we can push on.He may think his budget is a fair one but this City dead wood remains and is holding back our rebirth which could cost him more anyway come January as a result of non intervention.

How would another striker help fill the massive centre midfield shaped hole?

 

I’d try and shift Scannell if possible. I’ve yet to see him rip any defender a new one. With his reputation and ringing endorsement from Jamie Lawerence, I was hoping for something akin to Reidy but with more consistency and accuracy. He’s been no where near that level and hasn’t come close to the levels of excitement of Reid or Marshall. He should be demanding the ball and running at defenders but he doesn’t and often goes missing for long spells during a game.

 

It wouldnt. However, we still need to bring in a striker, as we are so short of cover and competition. Cannot see Vaughan staying free of suspension and injuries

 

Unfortunately with his back injury last season and Bowyer saying he needs easing back Im not sure another club would take the risk.
The only natural cover we have is Ismail who is also injured, its certainly frustrating with regards both long term and short term injuries.

 

Worryingly Reading Bowyers comments today he doesn’t see midfield as needing anymore players?

 

I don't disagree cover is needed but we simply have to prioritise the huge gaps in the first X1 because without filling them before the deadline it's going to be a long old slog until January.
