I guess it comes back to the issue of having the likes of Akpan, McCartan and Reeves on the wage bill but not really being involved. The Reeves situation is obviously a bit different, but that will be three players that I'd guess will be on reasonable L1 wages who are not contributing.

 

And technically, he wouldn't be asking him to spend any extra money, just to continue spending what he had been doing on Doyle! It's crazy this is even a thing.

 

I am sure Rhodes is firmly on Bowyer's side, especially as its not his own money he is playing with now. However, at the end of the day, it is Rupp;s money, and he has final say.

That said, I do think we will be allowed to bring in a couple of loans, where the parent club subsides the wages. But nonsense talk of buying someone like Danny Rose isnt going to happen

 

Did anyone actually believe that though? Wishful thinking by the poster rather than a genuine rumour.

I'm a massive believer that you need football men within a club. Ajax, Liverpool, Utd, Chelsea, Man City etc all have ex players in key positions in a club and they're reasons for that and mainly because the owners of the clubs are not footballing people.

I said all summer the signing of Donaldson and Vaughan are great signings for a club at this level but they need feeding to get the best out of them. Get crosses into the box! However, clubs will try to stop that so the centre of midfield becomes the heart beat. It was/is vital we improve upon our centre midfield. We need players that can create, drive the team forward from the middle of the park.

If Donaldson or Vaughan are out or need a rest then the back up is poor.

Football people can see this straight away. Rhodes needs to be telling Rupp we need money now! Forget Jan! Now!

 

I do get that it is Rupp’s money. However, unless my maths is way out, it is the McBurnie money that has funded the Rahic’s dream! Rupp was going to cover the debt, but now he doesn’t have to. I know it is frustrating to see players at the club who cannot contribute effectively, but that is where we are, and the only thing we can do is buy/ loan players to fill the gaps. Rupp wants to take us back to where we were, he promised he would, so this is no time for the jitters.

 

I think Rhodes wants to get us back to breaking even. It would be interesting to see his programme notes from Saturday where I believe he sets it out

 

Injuries happen, it's unfortunate but always a risk and can't and should never be used as an excuse for not strengthening when it's needed. Players not good enough and on high wages are the fault of one man only, and Rupp allowed that man to splash the cash freely without questioning him. McCarten is clearly a part of Bowyer's plans so is likely to be involved. Other than that, I agree with everything you say

 

Totally agree, with a CM being the upmost priority. As it stands, and if we are luck with availability, we’ve probably got a strong enough starting XI to compete, if we get the new CM in we all know we need. After that a back up for D&V is needed but think we have enough options at LW if we weren’t to land someone in this window.

 

Agree, CM and a back up forward the priorities now.

 

Although I have my own views on it I can see why the Mcburnie fee has been used in the way it has. Pocketing money Bowyer himself has freed up on the other hand would be pathetic. I doubt there's anything in it though so we'll just have to see how it pans out.

Think Bowyers just playing the media game, nothing to be concerned about yet. Happy to wait 2 weeks to see where we stand.

 

Haven't seen it and don't really want to. I find his constant need to always put a negative spin on any extra income that comes the clubs way, either through player sell ons or cup runs, extremely draining.

 

I wish I had bought one now, I very rarely do, sometimes for my youngest grandson. Do they still sell them in the shop?

 

Well he isn't.

We've played 3 games and looked poor in all 3.

We've a another game on Tuesday then Saturday.

So why we waiting to get players in. He clearly isn't playing the media. Bowyer is no fool and understands time waits for no one.

That's exactly what I took from the statement. Possibly letting potential targets/other clubs know that the purse strings are tight and we dont have much room for manoeuvre. Fully expect 2 new faces in at least before 2nd September

 

We didn’t look poor on Saturday we didn’t have our usual possession because we played 442 but we scored 3 goals and could have had more.

We were poor. Oldham were the better side but couldn't finish.
