No one is currently guaranteed a place at CB though. P o Connor is a shoe in for one CB place but that’s based on last year. We have 4 choices, plus Mellor to move over if needed and Staunton as last resort.

Just not an area we need anyone else with Mellor more than capable at this level to fill in if needed.

 

I wouldn't have offered a contract to all 3 of Devine, Anderson and Colville for the same reasons I wouldn't bring in a 4th CB on decent money. Not likely to play much, not as urgent as other areas and the budget can be better spent elsewhere. Bowyer has obviously decided to stack up on midfielders, but I don't think he will have the funds to do it everywhere on the pitch- not on a scale where such players can slot straight into the first team anyway. If he can, great. If he can't then we have to accept that the likes of French, Gibson, Patrick will be 4/5th choice players.

 

I really don't see the issue with that, I think that lot are as good as any 4th/5th choice in L2 which obviously isn't saying much but you get my point. For the amount they're likely to be involved they're fine for me, if you're at a point where you're playing your 5th choice in any position you're fecked anyway

You're absolutely right. We need another centre back.

 

We have 4 CBs.

 

With Longridge and Mellor also able to play there. Numbers aren't really a problem but I worry about quality. I'd prefer to see AOC moved on and a better CB brought in.

 

That would be an ideal scenario. AOC moved on and an experienced, big 'orrible bugger brought in.

 

I know it's only 45 minutes in a friendly but French looked pretty good today. Very strong and commanding in the challenge and also looked like he liked to get on the ball and pass it rather than the big hoof.

 

Yeah I liked him, looked like a footballer and his team mates seemed to have confidence in him and weren't afraid to give him the ball or leave him to mop up.
Guiseley is of course around the current level he is used to, but he could be one who may step up or surprise a few this season

 

Was French not playing two levels below Guiseley last season?

 

Not exactly sure hence why I said "around". He obviously stood out at his level hence all the trials he has been on. I was just basing it on the guiseley strikers will be more limited than what we will be up against week in week out, and more to his current ability

 

Myles Hippolyte was named on the team sheet today and took part in the warm up but didn't get on. A Dunfermline fan on twitter reckons he's already signed for us and is currently living with his ex teammate Longridge.

Interesting as he seems to be hated by every club he's played for in Scotland.

 

Just get behind the player who's hated by every Scottish club he's played for FFS.

 

But but Boing Boing says he isn't good enough for a squad place.

He doesn't count.

 

I wonder how much of Graysons influence was on last summer's transfer targets.

With his appointment at Blackpool, maybe we'll see some interest in one or two of our higher earners.

Doyle he already signed once whilst at Preston.

Thats not correct about him been hated by every club he’s played for as he was well liked at Falkirk and was something of a cult hero. He’s played 177 games in the Scottish Championship scoring 30 goals as a winger. He helped Falkirk to 2 Scottish premiership playoff finals in 2 seasons and a 3rd with St Mirren who got promoted. He didn’t get a new deal with St Mirren so he joined Dunfermline on a 2 year deal and then left by mutual consent in May this year after playing 31 games with a year left on his contract. He’s still only 24 and just might want to have another crack at an English club before it becomes to late for him.
