Jake Reeves was a defensive midfielder before he came to us and was the Wimbledon player of the year. McCall brought him in a tried to change him into an attacking midfielder ,but we would be better playing him as a defensive midfielder and bringing in another attack minded midfielder to supple the big guns upfront.

 

Of course you can! The whole purpose of pre-season is to allow players to build up their matchday fitness. Why else do players come back 6-8 weeks before the season starts.

It’s not all about team bonding and establishing who’s got the biggest dong in the showers.

The players coming back for pre season haven't missed over a year.

Will Reeves be back for pre-season? For the record as well, Im guessing the left winger is Danny Mayor from Bury, with their constant goings on in the background he'll probably move on and he was top class in this league last year.

You are right on the need for a ball winner and I posted 3 names recently. A Gary Jones type could be the final piece to any jigsaw we build.

However, as I said previously, if Bowyer agrees, then why would he tie down Devine, Anderson and Colville? None of those 3 are ball-winners, certainly not in the class that we need. So why sign them all and not just 1-2 of them plus a ball-winner? He clearly thinks Devine and/or Anderson can be that player?

As for Butterfield and Ball, I disagree. I don’t believe Bowyer rates either and I’d be amazed if he brought either back.

 

Didn't seem to affect Ched Evans after being out longer. A good pre-season would be good enough to get him back up to speed.

 

@Faithful Bantam, I don’t want you to compromise our position on the possible left-winger, but are you able to provide any info on him. Obviously, you can’t say too much without giving it away, but for example, what’s his record like? What level has he been playing at? In your opinion, how likely is it that we can get him?

Also, have you (or anyone else), heard anything about any other positions? If rumours are to be true, it sounds like we are replacing Doyle with Vaughan, so we still need at least 1 more striker.

 

Maybe he wanted to make sure he had a midfield rather than releasing all, then missing out on his targets. I can see Colville going out on loan to gain experience if needs be, Devine needed for the extra place on the bench and Anderson being in the first 11.

 

For starters why have you only put "season" when he's already been out for much longer than that?

Secondly, can I ask you the same question as to why, after nearly 2 years out of the game you think he can not only just slot straight back in but in your words be "very influential" ?

Can’t say too much, obviously. Has experience in all 3 leagues outside the premier league. From what I understand, he’s been highly rated/well liked by fans at his clubs. Think we have a shot of getting him but will have to beat off other league 1 interest, so it’ll come down to the usual blend of money, desire to play in league 1 over league 2 and whether Bowyer/our size as a club can give us the advantage. Probably be a tough sell, but who knows.

Heard whispers on others but again, nothing concrete. Would expect another deal or 2 to be done before pre season kicks off.

 

From what I hear, he rates both. And likes both as characters. But both will have league one offers, I’m sure.

As for the Anderson, Devine and Colville, it’s a fair point. In a sense I thought it might be either Colville or Anderson but not both. I’d assume that all 3 are on fairly low contracts and are here for a mixture of squad padding and development punts. Not sure Colville has actually signed yet either.

 

I think we need to. I’d be worried going in to the season with our midfield. Unless they all of a sudden go up 20/30% on last seasons performances

 

I think our new captain joined us yesterday, although I wouldn't say no to Spearing.

 

Good, we should be doing! We can’t afford to stay in this league longer than one season. This sort of mentality is why we’re forever lower league. We need to take risks. For all edins faults at least he took a risk he was just too much of a psychopath for it to work. McBurnie is likely to be sold this summer which will cover the outlay Rupp has put up

 

Right? And he's not going to be injured forever is he......

 

Hope not... when thinking about it last season we had no leaders and credit to him he stepped up but this season I expect us to sign real leaders like Spearing and if so then I would rather an experienced captain.

 

Who knows. Might be. Over and year & a half already.
